    Hi y'all,
First of all thank you for what has been a little over a year of me using this forum as a great resource to solve many issues I've had since I bought my Tacoma. Until now I've been able to get away without having to make my own thread. My name is Mike, I've been working on my own vehicles for the last 10yr (mostly a couple volvos, a jeep, and now the tacoma) and usually can do most jobs on my own (with help of forums like this) but sometimes I run out of luck.

I've read dozens of threads on this topic but if anyone is game to dive into this and help me get more direct answers/advice that would be awesome because I'm over my head at this point and having a hard time sifting through all the info out there. Alsoany of them no longer have working images/links.

    Here we go....

A month or so back I started having trouble with the truck not starting in park, like a "kill switch" nothing type no start, not a battery/starter/fuel etc...type issues and I quickly discovered the truck would start every time fine but only in Neutral.

The gear selector was often a little stiff and sometimes a little finicky going between the drive modes. These things led me to believe it was the Park Neutral Safety switch failing.

Last week I got a CEL P0705 so I finally picked up the PNS switch from Toyota and replaced my original one. I also cleaned the harness with some electric parts cleaner. I believe I installed this correctly as all "gears" or drive modes on the dash show as they should. Unfortunately now the truck won't start at all. In park or in neutral.

This has me a little concerned about the wiring harness and "junction box no.1" issues I've read about as wiring is NOT my strong suit and it looks like it can be a very expensive fix if it is the harness discussed in the TSB i've come across. I've given the harnesses under the driver side kick panel a brief inspection and none look obviously damaged.

The only other variable I can think of is that the previous owner had an astrostart (rs 721) remote started installed that also hasn't been working consistently. I'm wondering if this could be a part of the problem.

So assuming the new switch is good and I'm onto looking into wiring...where do I begin?
Try to figure out the remote start wiring and see if theres issues there I can either fix or remove the unit?

I scheduled an appointment with a good mechanic I trust for the end of this week if I can't make any progress but they're not cheap.

Any help is super appreciated. I can't really afford the worst case scenario of this right now so I'm hoping I can figure something out.

Here is a link to help, were we help another member with a similar problem.
    It has the diagrams there.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/09-tacoma-no-power-to-starter-relay.695105/

I don’t have access to all the diagrams currently.
But I’ll do my best to explain the process I’d take to try and figure it out.

When you turn the ignition switch on, it send power to the 7.5 Sta Fuse.
The from there it goes through a “Purple” wire to the the PNS Switch.
Then through the PNS and out throw a “Yellow” wire to the STA relay.

The easiest thing to check first would be the STA Fuse.
Then the relay terminals IN the fuse box. (You need to pull the relay)
    SEE LINK ABOVE

Now, for what I don’t know. I don’t know how the remote start is wired.
And it could cause your problems. I can’t help you with it. I have no experience with them.

    Hopefully this helps.

    That did help! Thank you!

So to follow up I did end up taking the truck to a mechanic I know that’s very good at working with me but far more experienced and way more so with electrical work. I went over everything with the issue I knew and even printed out and gave him the diagrams + procedure you shared and some others. We found out the witch was not getting power to the started relay after following your sequence. Upon looking more closely at the truck end of the harness he discovered that the pin from the switch end plug was corroded and had broken off and was stuck in the truck end of the harness. It looks like when I plugged in the new switch I must have pushed the left behind pin even further into the harness too. We’re currently sourcing a new plug / connector from a junk yard to splice in and hopefully that takes care of it.

Thanks again. I’m gonna keep practicing my electrical work / testing because looking back I know I could have figured this out had I had the confidence to follow your procedure and look closer on my own. Thankful for my quality and honest mechanic though.

Hi Guys, my name is Richie, and I just changed the TRS put in the new and now my truck does not come out of Park unless I push the release button in the console, turn the key the get nothing, step on the brake and the dash goes blank. Looks good but when I turn the key I get nothing. And I do have a remote starter but it hasn’t been working correctly for awhile. I disconnected the battery to see if it resets it self but nothing. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Do your brake lights come on if you step on the brake pedal?
