My truck was running fine before I parked it and shut it off, then 2 hours later I go to leave, started truck and all of a sudden it bogs down and dies. Everytime I tried starting it would just die. So I hooked my scan tool up to it and I got a code for P1300. So I tried deleting it, that didn’t work. So I disconnected the battery, went to start it and it started up fine. ( keep in mind my truck has ran perfectly fine for a year since I’ve had it, no problems with motor whatsoever, hasn’t ever done anything like this) This all happened about a week ago so now I’ve been feeling a hesitation when going up hills. Seems like it’s getting more air than fuel. It’s not missing or anything. No codes are showing on it. I also noticed when I rev it up from a idle it kinda sounds choppy til I get about 1500-2000 rpm’s. I’ve replaced the 3 coils on the drivers side and changed all spark plugs about a month and a half ago. It’s a 01 3.4L with 269k. Any idea would be appreciated. Thanks.

You might have a poor connection or a broken wire causing a open circuit between the igniter and ECM.

The ECM not seeing the igniter signal thinks the engine has no spark and shuts off the fuel

Could also be the igniter has a heat related issue as it gets to hot it shuts off .

If this trips again it will leave you sit till the problem is fixed.

Your scanner would not clear the code because at that time the problem was still present removing the negative cable may have allowed things to cool enough.

Remember it is the complete circuit between the igniter and the ECM

    Good luck!

Would you know anything else that would trigger that code? Because like I said the truck hasn’t ever acted like that. I’ve had it for over a year and the engine light stays off. It was just so random.

That's how it always goes, things work until one day they don't. If you're lucky you get some warning before failure but it depends on the parts in question. With how old these trucks are by now it's a testament to their reliability in my opinion... that 20+ year old parts can function for so long compared to so many other vehicles. But nothing lasts forever.

I've got no experience with this code in particular but these are the main causes of a P1300 via my google-fu search

    • Faulty Ignition Coil No. 1
    • Ignition Coil No. 1 harness is open or shorted
    • Ignition Coil No. 1 circuit poor electrical connection
    • Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
the faulty ECM is usually something that is listed as a possibility for all codes, I wouldn't worry about that unless nothing else works.

That code PO1300 means the ECM does not see that the igniter is firing so shuts off the fuel to what the ECM sees as a engine with no spark.

Nothing else will trigger the code !!

The ECM The igniter or the harness between the two is where the problem lies.

In your case a intermittent problem .

    Good luck.

A broken wire would take a while to manifest like this, and is completely plausible.

Just a suggestion as you're about to start looking into those parts list by @eon_blue. As far as the Coils are concerned, OEM or Denso only (pretty much applies to any sensor as well). Wires I think most folks are ok with the NGKs, I chose OEM. And spark plugs- make sure you're getting dual electrodes.

Yea I don’t think I replaced the spark plugs with the dual electrodes. I put in autolites. Probably where my problem is. But I ordered a ICM. So we will see.

that will not trip the PO1300 code!

    good luck

I’m not really concerned about that code unless it comes back. Which it hasn’t in a week and I’ve put 400 miles on it since. I’m more concerned about the power I’ve lost after the code came about. You would think if it were the code and me having power lose I’d still have a code. I don’t.

sometimes code take awhile to regenerate, have you scanned for it and checked pending codes? Not sure what kind of scanner you've got, but with some you have to look specifically for pending codes.

I cannot stress this enough: if you have a code regarding a bad coil and a loss of power, you should do everything within reason to assess that ASAP. It could be something worse (there have been a few folks with fatal head/piston damage lately). At a minimum pull the coil and spark plug and inspect them. Continuing to drive it around with your fingers crossed is a one-way ticket on the motor-replacement-express.

Here's the diagnostic tree for this code. I've actually seen crappy plugs backfeed bad enough to cause a similar issue believe it or not. That was fun to track down.

Plan on changing out spark plugs and I ordered a ICM to see if thatll sum it up. Hopefully it’s not electrical.
