You all were helpful with suggestions for removing the camshaft position sensor, particularly slater on my '97 2.7 Tacoma. The sensor was installed and everything is back together.

I'm now getting a P1300 ignitor circuit 1&2 except (1998-2000 Land Cruiser & Celica). Is this a legitimate code? Excuse my ignorance, I have no clue what this relates to other than possible ignition coils or how to troubleshoot this code. Any suggestions?

I tested ohms as below and the reading was 12.9 cold on both coils. I noticed 1 cap from the spark plug wires was loose on each unit, both wires had secure connections, but one end was oxidized and dull-looking, all the others were shiny.
also, the engine smells flooded when trying to start
