2023 DC TRDOR MT with 5k - last of the run of V6 MT trucks.

In process of build. Installed 2wd Low kit and Anytime Locker Kit by piggybacking off the 4wd module. Think my large hands may have knocked a wire on ECM Plug E14. Truck now throwing P2420 Code. Has been through five run cycles now after deleting codes and keeps coming back. I am guessing it I hit wire to vacuum pump.

Any thoughts? Anyone have E14 pin diagram?

It’s not as easy as just posting a pin out.
You have to go through multiple different diagrams, look for the e14 plug and write down each pin and to what component it goes to. It’s super time consuming. I’ve done it in the past. But I’m don’t have access to a pc this weekend. And doing all that on a phone would be really hard.

Maybe something else, you don’t have a vacuum pump on a TRD OR though. I’ll check the diagram in a bit.

You code has to do with the Evap Vent Valve.
If you think you messed up something in the wiring, here is the pin locations and plug.

But you could just have an Evap issue.

    Thank you. That was fast.

RE having an EVAP issue, could that be the case at 5k? Have been reading about it and it sounds like there are a range of issues that can cause the P2420.

Reason I am suspicious of E14 loose wire/pin is it’s really tight in there and could have unintentionally pushed or pulled a wire and came unpinned? The CEL came on the day after install of the 2wd Lo and Anytime Locker harnesses and after the pump leak down test ran overnight after a full drive cycle on half a tank of gas. I’m guessing the pump didn’t activate and the system was not able to perform the test.

Trying to diagnose a bit more before taking to dealer which would require removal of installed aftermarket harness.

I have a trailer I back up regularly and love the 2wd lo mod. Also drive on the beach a bit and love the Anytime Locker as it really changes beach driving to be in high range 4wd and have rear diff locked. Reasons why I installed these harnesses.

However also need the truck to run and not throw a CEL.

Further discouraging me taking it to dealer are all the other things that they will surely “compliment” me on…..intake, exhaust, tune, lift, 35s, bm chop, etc….kinda created my own dilemma. Plus interior of rear of double cab is torn out as am currently installing kickass 170 slimline and Wagan 40 Amp dcdc and Auxbeam pod behind the seat tied to a Cascadia hood solar and the start battery/alternator…. In the middle of an electrical hurricane in the back and would rather not pull into the dealer until that is wrapped up.

Not a daily driver so am taking the patient route.

Has to do with the Vent Valve, check your EFI No 3 fuse s a first step.

I’ll check there and see what I find.
I guess I’m more suspicious of my own doing than a 5k truck but maybe these systems are prone to failure. WTF do I know

I mean it's a quick simple check before digging too deep.

    Fuse looks good.

Just a question, is this only set as a Permanent code or is it set as Current/Pending/CEL on?

Permanent and has recently on five occasions after conditions have allowed attempted leak test after run cycle (e.g. five hours or whatever and below certain temp as far as I understand it). Basically, CEL is on in the morning, delete pending code and stored code remains, drive vehicle around town for 30 mins, park vehicle, come out to drive next day and same thing.

Ok so we do seem to have an active fault, I was just making sure because Permanent DTCs can not be cleared and will clear on their own after the test runs and passes several times in a row.

You didn't happen to put an aftermarket locking gas cap on did you?

Nope! Factory. Truck has 5k. Definitely think that is in the future though and however only if there is an option that doesn’t cause vacuum issues in the emissions testing system….

Well the control wire for the vent valve is the Violet wire on Connector E14 Pin 6, do you have a Bi-Directional scanner?

Did you disturb any inline harness connectors?

Thanks for the diagram. Very helpful. No, I did not purposefully modify or impact any other connectors aside from the two that connect to the 4wd module.

I did pull the two connectors going into the 4wd module and piggyback both the 2wd Lo and the Anytime Locker harnesses into those positions.

My theory is I somehow disrupted a wire on an adjacent harness that loosened a pin and this is the result.IMG_0556.jpg

I guess it's plausible, doesn't seem likely though.

Without a Bi-Directional scan tool the easiest check we can so is backprobe E14 Pin 6 (Violet) with a small needle or paperclip and check voltage on it key on with a meter. Should see battery voltage if the wire is intact from the ECM to the valve.
