Tacoma World - While I have read many posts over the years this is my first post. I have a 2012 Tacoma TRD 4.0 V6 access cab with a snug top. Bought it used with 50k miles many years ago and now have 195,000 miles. Been a great vehicle but I did have P0441 in 2018 at 120,000 miles and after calling Toyota USA I was able to get that fixed at no change. Vehicle had gone in to limp mode. Now just recently I'm getting P2443 (from a code scanner) with no limp mode. Called Toyota again and even emailed NHTSA and they are both saying only one free recall fix so looks like this one is on me. On the service ticket at 120,000 Toyota for the P0441 says secondary air injection system but supposedly that what P2443 is? So I'm guessing when they fixed it they put back in the same parts there was a known defect with. Not sure if possibly related but lately my gas cap does not click on well like it used to. Would that be something to try first? Also pretty sure my battery is over 5 years old so think I'll replace that as well as I plan on keeping the truck. I've heard estimates anywhere from 1 - 3k to fix the P2443. 1k I could likely swing but anything more would really hurt. Does this even need to be fixed? Sounds like a cold weather emission issue? Might this go away in the spring. I live in CO at 6,700 elevation. Truck is kept in the garage so doubt this is a mouse issue eating the wires as I have read from other. Lastly is this potentially something I could fix? I'd rate myself at about a 5/10 for mechanical skills but with very clear directions / pictures / video sometimes I surprise myself. I've seen pretty detailed YouTube videos for the error code but for Tundra's. Would it be the same process for Tacoma? Does anyone know of any directions specific to second gen Tacoma? I know there are some highly knowledgeable and helpful folks on this site so any wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt

The P0441 (Incorrect Purge Flow) is an EVAP system problem, the P2443 (Air Switching Valve Bank 2 Stuck Closed)is a problem with the Secondary Air Injection System.
Unless the other code was actually a P2441 (Air Switching Valve Bank 1 Stuck Closed) they are 2 different systems.

Secondary Air Injection Problems are quite common on 2012 V6 models due to moisture getting stuck in the system (later models had updated logic to purge the system at shutdown), there was an extended warranty on the components but it sounds like you already had that done so you basically have 3 options providing it's actually a stuck valve:

1: Use a tune to eliminate the codes and remove the SAIS (if you have emissions testing this may not be an option).

2: Install the @hewitt-tech SAIS bypass kit (again if you have emissions testing it may not be an option).

    3: Replace the valves.

Awesome thanks guys! I will do the HT Hewitt bypass for sure. Found a 32 minute on YouTube where a guy does this bypass on a 4runner which along with the instructions looks pretty easy. The guy in the video did have a host of issues after the install that turned out to not be related to the kit but sure hope I don't have the issues he did as I couldn't be without my vehicle for that many days. Likely won't install for a month or two which hopefully won't be an issue. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again!

Secondary Air Injection System Bypass Kit
@TegoTaco & @Dm93 we really appreciate your recommendation offered solid advice. @mtlwatson33 we are glad to help answer any questions you have about the Bypass Kit. I also wanted to include some link with additional details about the Bypass Kit.

Our recommended solution is the Gen 2 Bypass Kit. It is our most comprehensive bypass kit that will address both mechanical and electrical SAIS fault codes. The only codes it would not address is any related to damaged pressures sensor. If you had a damaged pressure sensor then a kit addon would be required. If you provide us with the current codes we can more confidently recommend if an addon would be needed. That said, if your pressure sensor, factory wiring and ECM are all in good working condition all you should need the Gen 2 Bypass Kit.

    Gen 2 $450

    - Our Gen II kit emulates the operation of the SAIS and ECM reads as Ready/Completed. It also eliminates all trouble codes dealing with the SAIS with the exception of the pressure sensor. Installs at the Air Injection Driver and Air Switching Valves.

+ Covers both mechanical and Electrical SAIS error codes
+ Compatible with Toyota's current ECM Computer flash
+ Compatible with Flex Fuel Modes
    + Clears permanent codes

    Kit Addon
    Pressure Sensor Replacement Single $225

It is also important to note that our Bypass Kits are engineered to work with Factory/OEM components. If the Air Switching Valves have ever been replaced with aftermarket parts this could cause the need to purchase Pressure Sensor Addons in addition to the Bypass Kit.

Please do not hesitate to give us a call if you need any further clarification (844) 307 - 7671. Below I have also some additional Blogs about the SAIS system.

Interesting update. Replaced my battery on Saturday with a Napa Legend AGM battery for $250 buck and now all warning lights are gone and haven't come back or at least not yet. I had done the battery mod with the GM diode to be able to get the full amps from a AGM battery but just now replaced the battery. I'm not an electrical guy by any stretch so I'll ask the group. Could the battery mod have been the cause of my P2443 error code and CEL and trac off lights being on? Could it have been an amperage issue? Is it just a matter of time or a long drive before the lights come back on or did the new battery perhaps solve the issue? Will keep my fingers crossed and the Hewitt information close at hand.

Highly unlikely it had anything to do with the battery.
If i were a betting man, I'd bet the light will come back on eventually.

But......I'm also the type that doesn't fix what's not broke.
Run it. If it doesn't come back on. Sweet.

    If so, Fix the issue.
