P3 Brake controller stays on?

I have used this same brake controller in previous trucks with no problems. I got it wired but the 2 dots stay illuminated with the key off? I am not sure why it still has power going to it. My truck has the factory tow package and I know it is properly wired. Any suggestions? I haven't come across this issue in other posts.

 

Double check that it doesn't go off after a few minutes. Mine did the same thing...went inside, posted a thread, went back out and it had turned off.

I have the P3 as well and questioned it after it was installed. Read the manual and it notes that it remains lit I believe for about 15 minutes after engine is shut off.

 

Mine did the same thing so I called tech at customer service. He said it will remain lit for up to 30 minutes after switching off the ignition, and it is for safety. He also said it will provide signal to the electric brakes in the event there is a momentary loss in power at the switch. Also, just stepping on the brake pedal even with ignition off will reactivate the controller.

 

You guys are right, not that I doubted you! I don't have my manual anymore, this controller is a few years old. I guess I just never noticed it before.
