    You need cats....
"your cats were bad so your mechanic removed them"
You also need a new mechanic....

if youre in the Middle East & you dont need cats, why do you care if your CEL is on?

because it says “trac off” so I don’t have traction control.

not all the cats were removed. The two at the bottom were. I still have the ones by the engine.

Since this is your second thread about the same issue with no resolution my thought is new catalytic converters.

    Basically you have two options.

One is to replace the lower cats with new OEM...typically aftermarket cats will still throw the same code. This is the best answer for both the smell of the exhaust and the efficiency of the motor.

The other is to simulate the O2 signal to fool the ECM to believe the exhaust is catalyzing. I have done this on older wideband systems but haven't on the Tacoma. You will usually get the CEL to turn off but will most likely still run rich...this will likely be the same result with a tune as well.

Its usually the front cats that fail, so I still say new mechanic...
Figure out why they failed, last thing you want to do is throw thousands of dollars in cat converters in a truck that has issues causing the cats to fail...
Then throw new cats at it, I also dont recommend aftermarket cats, ever, theyre garbage & wont last....

Your mechanic complicated things by not having a clue....
    respectfully....

    Get your story straight....
    Doesnt change anything...
Sounds like nothing was properly diagnosed & your mechanic removed cats that may have been good, or not, who knows...
Cats are expensive & gambling / rolling the dice isnt a good idea....

well yeah they are removed so I need new ones either way. They are hard to ship here all the way from the U.S. and very expensive.

I can get used ones off of old Tacomas. That’s always a possibility.

Not sure who tunes 3Gs in the Middle East haha.. maybe contact KanooPerformance? I know they work with Toyotas and they’re located in Bahrain.
There are small gains to be made with a cat delete and a proper tune. It will hurt more than it helps on the stock tune though.

    Still cheaper than cats...

Another option is to hop on car-part.com and search for an exhaust manifold. Call the yards that show it and see if they will ship overseas.

If you ever intend to ship the truck to the U.S. it will have to have the cats so I would recommend replacing. If not try the work around method which ever is cheaper.

Interesting. What’s that mean? Sorry I don’t know too much about exhaust systems.
