    Wharton State forest in NJ is about 45 min from philly. It's great this time of year. Even better about a week or so after a snow storm when snow melts and the roads are slop, or day after a rain storm. This time is great though because the foliage is down. I brought a bow saw and had to use it a few times just to get by. Saw maybe 2-3 other rigs. Spent about 4/5 hours driving around there a week ago. There's picallily inn not too far from there: over rated wings and not great beer but it's close for lunch. Typical biker bar, makes me feel like I'm back in S. VA or West VA. I think it's a great area so close to home. It's no rausch creek but it's close and free. download the map before you go so you know whats driveable.

    Heading down to Washington/Jefferson Forest in about 1-2 weeks, about 3 hours south of here. Same thing. easy trails in summer, bit more challenging in winter with no tree cover for better views.

    Fishing hollow is a nice little road, 2? maybe 3 dam crossings good for photo ops. It's pretty dense forest in places so the low light makes for good pics with a tripod. but there are more than enough dirt roads around there besides fishing hollow, if you are ever west of the city.
