    LT285/70R-17 (LR-E) Falken WildPeak A/T3W | Discount Tire Direct

I'm not sure when the next eBay promotion will take place (or if there will be another), but DTD's Thanksgiving Deals promo starts Monday and during this event the WildPeak A/T3W qualifies for $75.00 back by mail with an additional $60.00 back by mail if you complete the transaction using Discount Tire credit

Can anyone comment on this E load compared to others? Does anyone here with the LT prefer it came in C? Is it too much?

I don't know much about tires. Are all Es the same? Is there something special about the design of theirs that makes a difference?

I have a Theory.. Ive had issues with these tires causing shake since I put em on... Heres my theory.. When they were first installed on my new FN wheels, I had them road force balanced... supposedly. The wheels had weights in random spots all over them. Had decent tire shake immediately. I ignored it and drove around for a while. Tires developed a bad wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa sound. Not extreme like some mud tires, but enough I could hear. Went in around 4k for rotation and balance. "All done" they said. Shake was WORSE!. Went back again couple days later. Said one tire they moved to the front just had too much wobble or runout in it to be smooth. It balances.. but not gonna ever be smooth, so they put it back on the back. ALL done again they say. Still had steering shake. Ended up getting tire replaced through Falken because of the wobble.. New tire on.. Still had shake. drove around for a little while longer.. weights still everywhere on all wheels. Went to a different place, and Paid them to balance em again.. (free at install place, but obviously weren't getting it right). New place took all weights off, and ended up with very little weights on anything, and commented about how much weight was all over the wheels. All done.. Said had issues with one tire taking more weight than the others, but still zeroed.. Very little weight on wheels now. Cost me a chunk of change just for a balance. wasn't happy about that.. IT was a good bit better but STILL had shake down the road.. I moved tires all around trying to identify maybe one tire having an issue.. All had shake no matter where they were. Keep driving a while.. I now have about 8-9k on the tires. Took em in yesterday to yet ANOTHER place.. Though ive been noticing lately, the shake doesn't seem as bad. This place took off one wheel.. Removed weights.. Balanced.. and called for the exact weights in the exact spot he took em off. Did the other wheels without removing weights first.. All zeroed as they were. So didn't do anything else. and didn't charge me. The more I drive.. I'm noticing the shake is almost gone. almost non existent most of the time.... Also kinda noticing that the wa wa wa may not be as bad the more I drive.. SO.... My Theory is the people who installed the tires, didn't know how to properly operate their Road force balance machine.. Threw the tires OFF balance pretty bad.. And driving around for 5-6k miles like that wore the tires to the balance, causing the wa wa.. and causing the shake. And with the last balance around 6k, tires are now balanced, but they were wore to the old balance, and it has taken another 3-4k to wear them proper and are now smoothing out........ what are your thoughts? I know this is long, but this has really been pissing me off.. Because I really like the looks of the tires, and no one else was seeming to have this issue.. but I was at the point of selling them and getting something else.. And I had been giving bad reviews of them to other people. Thanks for your time

what color dot is near the valve steam? Are the rims bent? They may be new but there may be an issue with one of the rims. Are wheels torqued down properly or just air gun on like I see a lot of shops do?

I'd say that's a pretty sound theory. It would make sense since it is improving as they wear.

When I had mine installed they used too many weights. After I had them balanced again, they came back with half the weights and ride much better.

285s were too heavy and stiff. Went to 265/75 R16 - plenty of clearance at UCAs.

Hey guys - I searched this thread but there are now 130 pages...

For those running the P rated (SL) tires instead of E's, are you running them off road? And how are they holding up to abuse of off road?

I'm actually considering the Falken Rubitreks which someone said was basically the same internal tire as the Wildpeaks, but I can't wrap my head around the E's. It's not the ride I'm worried about, but the weight - 265/75R16s are 44 lbs and the LT265/75-R16s are 55 lbs. If the P-rated tires are holding up in the Wildpeaks off road, I may take a flyer on the Rubitreks and post my results.

Finally found some deeper stuff in the mountains near Bozeman, Montana. Still super impressed with these tires, I never really got myself into anything I couldn't get out of with some maneuvering and 4 low.

I have used mine off road many times. I'm running 285/70/17SL no complaints at all. I've air them down to 15psi on a couple of occasions and great results.

Ok, so what is the difference between Discount Tire and Discount Tire Direct? There is only a discount right now on Direct. Does it make more sense to have them shipped to you and then take them in? Also, Tirebuyer currently has better deal on the LT 265 70 17.

You could always try getting your local discount to match the tirebuyer price.

With Discount Tire Direct, you don't pay any tax which can be a decent amount of savings. With Discount tire you will pay tax if you have one in your state (which most states do). I buy from Direct since it's typically the better price with all costs considered. You can compare side by side to see which is a better deal for the tires you want specifically. IMO, I think the savings is worth it for having to take the tires in to a local Discount store myself to have them mounted.

gotcha. so i can buy from direct, have them shipped to me then bring into discount store and have them installed and then pay for the mounting/lifetime rotation?
