Not that I've noticed, with my wheel & tire combination I actually dropped 10lb /corner.

Did any of you guys happen to get them in the 285/70 17 in the P Metric? Can't go with the Load Range E because the truck is my DD. But I'm wondering how the sidewall is. And how it will hold up to rocks and wheeling. Debating on getting this or the Cooper AT3 in a 275/70 17 Load C

Lot of info out on 285s and what you need to do to fit them. Do some searchin'.

Tire size is the smallest part of that.

    Current - Wild Peak AT3W-P265/75/16. 44lbs each. 16" 3rd Gen 4Runner OEM wheel - 20lbs = 64lbs

Before the upgrade - Factory Installed BF Goodrich Rugged Trail-265/70/16. 38lbs each. 16" Tacoma OEM wheel - 20lbs each = 58lbs. That's 6lbs more per corner on my set up. 32psi in the rear tires and 33psi up Front. After 756 miles I'm very pleased with the tire so far. I mostly drive in town with a short commute and don't pay attention to fuel mileage. I top the tank off with 90 octane non ethanol twice a month and Im sure I haven't taken a Hard hit with fuel mileage. Have gotten a lot of compliments on how sharp these tires are. I just added a matching Spare that will be included in the Tar Rotation! :)

You can drive anywhere you steer to.

But hitting rocks on purpose using the thinnest and lowest strength sidewall available is the wrong idea.

C rated tire is a better option, unless he wants to buy 6 P metric tires and keep 2 spares.

I'm going to be going with the Cooper AT3's in a Load C. As much as I like the look of these Falken's I can't go with a Load E for my 75 mile daily commutes.

This is what sucks about the lack of various loads from manufacturers. I didn't go with the coopers because my size wasn't offered in anything but D or E. I forget which was. I ended up going with the falkens because I could get a lighter load rating, I think I went with P. Although I am very happy with these tires. They have been great so far, and are great highway tires. They do really well in the mountains too. I don't rock crawl, but I get into some rough terrain.

How's the sidewalls holding up for you? What kind of terrain do you encounter?

Sidewalls are fine so far. I don't rock crawl my truck, I occasionally hit up 4WD required areas at 4 low speeds. Rough enough you have to take it slow over small logs and such. I take it in the mountains on non maintenance roads all the time.

I put these Falkens, 265/70/17 SL, on 2 days ago. I like them, but I have noticed a pretty big dip in mpg. I would usually get 22-24 mpg on my commute to work (That's over the first 3k miles before I switched from factory tires). The best I have gotten with these is 18. I need to check what psi they are, maybe this will be a simple fix..

It'll be expected to take some hit coming from an oem tire, but 5 mpgs is a big hit. Mine dropped some with these and I came from having duratracs. Stock I was getting about 22 highway. With the duratracs I was getting about 21 highway. Now with the falkens I get about 19 highway.

It is a little frustrating to take this big of a hit. I just did a 300 mile trip last weekend with the stock tires where I was averaging 24.6 mpg. oh well, I think the truck looks good ;).

The falkens are heavily siped, not sure if that's one of the reasons. At least they should be good in the snow because of that. I was a little surprised with the mpgs, because the tread was less aggressive than the last tire I had.

You also went up in size. You need to calculate that into you math. Probably 1 mpg.

I wonder if heavier tires have an effect on shift points causing the lower mpg?
