well I mean its a big jump cost/tire wise from the AT3Ws to the Ridge Grapplers.... but comparison wise to the Ridge Grapplers is the Cooper STMaxx and Toyo RTs so not to bad...

I cant remember but I want to say I was around $600 for 4 265/70R17s mount and balanced when I bought them a year ago.

Comparing the Ridge to the Falkens is like comparison the A-10 Warthog to the Wright Brothers first plane, sure both can fly and shit... But the A-10 is kind of better

I didn't expect these tires to be the best tires I've ever owned. I wanted a good tire for a good value and that's what I've encountered so far.

So are these comparable to the st maxx at all? They sound like they target the same category. Tread life better than the coopers?

Same target, unknown about tread life for the LT version. I have had 2 sets of ST Maxx and wasn't super impressed with the tread life. Granted I abused them.

ehhh I would say def these are less aggressive. Coming from these to the ST Maxxs, the max is def a lot more aggressive, bigger lugs, nosier, lot more tread depth.

I would say the falken is def an aggressive looking AT, the Maxx is more of a hybrid AT/MT tire similar to the Toyo RT and Ridge Grappler. I ended up with the Maxx since I wanted to be able to go anywhere and get out of any situation, but didn't want a full blown MT. The AT3W is a good weekend warrior tire I would say, and will do 90% of what anyone would want. I just had to many of those 10% situations, and that's why I didn't go back to them (Side note Falken did buy these back from me for accelerated wear).

Me personally I had bad luck in any form of slightly muddy terrain and they didn't like most snow situations, others have said they've gotten great snow traction, I connect my poor traction to the poor mileage associated to getting a bad tire compound set.

Tread life, well the Falkens are warrantied to 55k and the Coopers are not. I'm expecting around 55kish miles out of the Coopers. If you don't get 55k out of the Falkens then the nice people at Falken will credit you the money back based off of how many miles you did get out of them

Well if they're no good in snow they're probably no good for me. Darn.

I will emphasize that they were no good for me... others have seen more positive results. I had a few snow reviews several pages back, went into detail of conditions and such. Basically for me it didn't like hard pack, or greasy snow. Slush did ok on. Ice was a no no. But fluffy stuff and if I was the first guy out on the road they weren't bad

*Edit: I for example have had good luck with Cooper AT3s in the snow while others have not... its odd I know. just depends on what type of snow and how comfortable you are as a driver

And the Maxx ran those packed conditions much better for you?

This is gonna be my first winter on them coming up. From what I have read and seen they should do really well. I do have a spare set of rims with studded winter tires on them (I got these cause the Falkens didn't impress me), and I'll probably end up running just designated winter tires just for commuting

I liked the Falkens in the snow this year. I have the LT version however. My ST Maxx's were "ok" in the snow, but not impressive. The Coops are a tough as nails tire that does everything pretty good, I really liked them on rocks and in the sand. I really liked the 265/76/16's I had but I was less impressed with the 285/75/16 size. The 285's had to be balanced pretty much every rotation and wore too fast for my liking.
