I have a 2005 Access cab 4x4, great little truck that I primarily drove to work 30K miles a year. About 3 years ago at about 234K miles 1 of the leafs on the drivers side broke and was in danger of gouging the tire. I took it to the local body & frame shop and they replaced the single broken leaf and put new straps on the leaf spring pack, back on the road for about $150. About a year later same thing happened to passenger side. Same fix, same shop. About a year later I get a recall letter for broken springs from Toyota. In it they said I would get reimbursed if I had repairs done before the recall. Instructions to follow.

About 8 months later I got a letter detailing the documentation Toyota would need in order to get my $ back. It was rather time consuming and I had to go back the repair shop and get a letter from them as part of the documentation. Sent all that in and probably another 8 months goes by no word, so I phone call them. Said they could not read my repair bill copies (RIGHT!)
and that I needed to get part the numbers for the items used in the repair. I'm like you gotta be kidding! I go back to the repair shop and tell them I need part numbers. They laughed as the could not provide a part number for a steel bar they cut from a piece of stock. I call Toyota back and attempt to explain that to them. Now they tell me I need the repair facility to supply even more crap. I told dude I wasn't going back there again as they are not going to remember what they did years ago. I figure they are just trying to make me jump thru more hoops till I give up and go away. After I hang up I write them a rather nasty letter and include the original repair invoice so that's no longer an excuse. Couple days later (about a month ago) same dude calls me back and says that he contacted my repair facility got what he needed and is resubmitting my claim.

GOT THE CHECK TODAY FOR THE FULL AMOUNT OF MY REPAIR BILLS!

Way to go Toyota! They didn't make it easy but if your persistent it should pay off.

PS They also did a frame recall last year which included a new 4pack spring set assembly so I don't even have that old 3pack set with the R&R leaf anymore.

Anyone else have luck getting $ back yet?

You can run but you cannot hide
    This is widely known
And what you plan to do with your foolish pride
When you're all by yourself alone
Once you tell somebody the way that you feel
You can feel it beginning to ease
I think it's true what they say about the squeaky wheel
    Always getting the grease.

    I hear you man!

Exactly the same timing on spring failures and silly double verifications Toyota requested from me as well to get a reimbursement!

Is it really their MO to make customers wait so long and hope they give up?
Stated they can't read the copies as well, kinds strange, but Toyota called the shop and had a 1.5 year wait after 8 phone calls from their silly delay tactics. Fortunately the shop gave them the old info, very lucky!

stated they sent a check last week, hope it arrives...

don't give up and document all calls and faxes!

'08 access cab 4WD off road 150K mi.
    new front bearings
    all idlers
    rear window slider stop repair
new shocks/struts, OEM suck, Monroe standard so much better ride!
