paid off truck early and didn't get a GAP refund

we used suntrust and paid off my truck early and we never received a GAP refund like I always have. Called and they said that it was discounted from the payoff amount. I call BS. What should my next steps be?

Note my wife called. I want some more info before I call. Would it be more helpful to go by a branch?

 

How early did you pay it off. It should be prorated.

It should be on your paperwork or on your last statement in paper or online.

 

Was the policy through Suntrust, or a different entity? If so, it's possible. If not, I would contact the underwriting company directly. That information should be listed in your original loan agreement. Good luck.

 

When I paid off my truck I got my gap refund from the dealership even though my loan was through somebody else

 

Usually with gap and extended warranties they need to be cancelled separately

When you get the confirmation in the mail that it’s paid off, etc you need to go back to the original dealer and talk to the finance manager and bring the “truck has been paid for” paper with you and they should and will start the process to get your refund check.

Took about 2-3 weeks for it to arrive in mail.

 

I purchased gap ins through the dealer. When I cancelled it (because of cost) I had to work with the dealer's finance manager to get the refund which took a few weeks. BTW - dealers gap coverage was costing me $120 yearly! I transferred the gap coverage to my auto insurer (Travelers) $22 annually.
