I had a question for you folks. When I was washing my truck the other day, I ran my hand along the bottom of the truck, specifically from the back of the cab to the front of the driver's side door. Is the paint along that curve supposed to feel different than the rest of the paint? It feels a little bumpy, where as further up the doors it feels glossy and smooth. I've never noticed or touched her down there before, so I'm hoping it is something they did to help protect that underside of the truck from road crap. I really hope it's not rust starting underneath the paint... :( Anyone else notice this? It's a 2013, I'd be really surprised if the paint was crapping the bed already...

Old picture, but just showing you where it is, both driver and passenger side.

Its normal. Its a coating under the basecoat to protect against stone chips.

I don't know what brand toyota uses at its factory but here is 3M's equivalent product that is used in aftermarket body shops.

I have an '06 that I bought used, so I have no idea what it looked like originally, but my paint in the same area is more "textured" like you describe

Whew, awesome news. It makes sense to have extra protection down there, not only for rocks, but all the damn road salt they use here in winter. "Textured" is the perfect way to describe it, yes. I was worried the salt and de-icers were eating it away down there. Thanks for the input! :D

Nothing to worry about, they'll just eat away at your frame.

That's fine, the years keep creeping closer to the later 2nd gens for frame rust recalls. I'll just get a brand new one in a couple years after I bitch enough.
