    Hi There,

I've had my new Tacoma for about two months now and recently noticed a few paint chips and on my passenger door panel. I figured I had some bad luck with maybe a rock on the highway so I bought some touchup paint and touched it up (poorly unfortunately). After that, I noticed a few more chips inside the door panel where it would be covered so nothing could have hit it there. Is this bad luck or is there a real chance the paint is chipping?

    Thanks

The paint on these is incredibly fragile. I picked up 3 on my hood in the first 24 hours, and one on the fender. Got PPF on hood/mirrors/fenders, and a bottle of touchup paint for everywhere else.

PPF on the vulnerable areas would be the thing to do first IMHO. Ceramic coat does nothing to stop rock chips.

Maybe maybe not. You claimed Toyota paint is very fragile so a clear coat over the factory clears might help. That was my point.

Sadly it won't. Wax and ceramic coatings will make the paint look nicer but does not improve the durability at all against chipping. The only real defense against that is PPF or a wrap.

For the hood, I ended up with a low profile bug deflector - AVS. It covered up an existing rock chip, and I figured I will probably get more. I’m happy with it. No added road noise or visual distraction which were my concerns. Truck has that “Clark Gable” look which I’ve gotten used to

Ceramic does not prevent paint chips. PPF does.

Clark Gable, that's awesome haha... Funny I have a 21 Pro with exactly zero rock chips?

Also, what bumper is that @21TRDPro ?

Thanks! The bumper is SSO Slimline. Fairly easy install - requires taping and cutting OEM plastic block thingy out.

Ceramic the truck and bring your rear fender ppf up past the gas flap. That's what I did with mine

Ceramic coating does not prevent rock chips in any way

That's was mine until I fixed it and took the ppf up past the gas cap. Ceramic may not prevent chips but it is a small bit of extra insurance when cleaning the shit comes off pretty easy and doesn't stay on the paint as much

Wow that is terrible! For a truck that's made to off road, it sure doesn't handle the substrate.
