I gotta give that a try. Been using a heat gun with some good results.
this was a first pass with the heat gun, a fan tip will get it more uniform in color.

That came out decent! The baking soda or toothpaste method are very minor abrasives which help with small nicks, which I use in combination sometimes with a razor blade. The Back to black though may fix some of that discoloring.

If stripped off then 1 fender flare will look different than the other 3. I purchased used and have only done a ceramic coating to the outside of the truck. I would have sworn these were unpainted fender flares like some say theirs are, but I wonder if they really are and people don't know it. I don't believe this is something that was applied by the previous owner. I figured someone here would know for sure, but seems a bit of a mystery. Thought about going to a dealer, but they likely don't have a clue so maybe a body shop to see what they might know, but I am sure they just replace them as they are probably damaged on all the ones they work on.

They definitely come from factory unpainted/coated. Previous owner put something on them.

I believe you are correct. Out in the sun it is not very noticeable at all, but looking at it in direct sun and up close it does look like a coating. now to figure out how to get the coating off safely or what was used to go over it again.
