Paint Defect

i have a black 2015 tacoma DCSB 4x4 SR5 TSS Package and it has a paint defect on the drivers side of the bed. basically, it looks like they paint is kind of "spider webbed" and you can see the primer inside the small cracks.

if you have a 2015 tacoma i would strongly suggest looking over your truck front to back, top to bottom.
this defect is EXTREMELY hard to notice on my truck but once you see it once, you can spot it from a mile away

could of possibly been repainted?

 

well its brand new and it only had 9 miles on it when i bought it.
im no paint expert by any means.
when i was washing my truck the other day, i noticed it and brought it to a body shop that is locally owned by a good friend of mine. he took one good look at it and said "yep, thats a paint defect"

 

Go complain to the dealer.

I'm having the same problem on the hood of my 2011 Tacoma, which only has 36,000 miles on it. Have you found any resolution? The dealership said its not covered by warranty which I disagree with

 

yeah i went explain to the idiots at the dealership that if im going to pay this much money for something that id like it to be RIGHT.
after a couple trips back to the dealership once i felt i was getting the runaround, they told me to bring it to a body guy and get an estimate. so i brought it to my neighbors shop and he gave me an invoice for how much it would cost to paint the whole panel.
im going to wait a few more weeks to make sure there are no other spots on the truck that show up (since toyota said they would only warranty the paint one time) then ill bring it to get painted and send toyota the bill

 

Thats good that they are taking care you of under warranty. Usually things like that they will try and get away with not making it right.

You are definitely not getting paint warranty work on a 5 year old vehicle, regardless of mileage.

 

If its the same condition as the OP its called paint checking or, anachronisticly, laquer checking. In the OPs case it's an application flaw due to some kind of chemical or recoat time fubar. Yours could be too, or it could be something else like eccedsive panel flex or heat. Regardless, due to being out of warranty it's probably just a tough break. AFIK the only fix is to sand the panel down and repaint it.

 

Oh I bet! These car companies rave about their warranties but seems like taking candy from a baby when warranty work needs to be done.

 

yeah its sad to say, but warranties are a joke now days. theres always some kind of catch to it

 

i took the picture with my phone and sent it to my email its not the best quality but you can see the defect decent enough to make out what it is

 

How much did the body shop quote to fix?

 

its going to cost $1000 to repaint the entire panel and to replace the TSS decal

 

wow i was about to say its a toyota, our paint sucks live with it until i saw this. That is REALLY bad, esp on a new truck. i would be BS too.
have them repaint the panel. if its a great body shop, you wont even know it was done.
