I bought my truck brand new in April and recently this has been bothering me. The passenger rear door does not match at all. Has anyone else had this problem? It makes me want to sell it.

Picture 1 is obvious, picture 2 not so much. No pre-purchase inspection? Have you been back to the dealer?

Did you just notice this 10 months later? Wow.

Just some dumb regular crap everyone else has
In certain light, yup you can definitely see the difference on mine as well. I've actually noticed it on a lot of Grey and Silver newer DC Tacos.

It was probably damaged when the distributor had it and I don't think it has to be disclosed...happened to me years ago with a Honda Civic ....called Honda and they verified it had been damaged durring transport...I was stuck with it.

No, we measured paint thickness, and nothing was repainted - I assume it's what is called "flop" (you have it in carpet fibers too)

Here's an old picture of mine, you take the sun away and it's gone

getting toyota metallic paint to match even itself is abit of a gamble. what ive read about my own color, swb, seriously discourages me from getting anything color matched cause it will never match. ive read the same for black and super white too if you can belive it.

Well right now it's in the shop getting repainted from a tiny dent so I hope they can match it better than factory. Kind of shitty Toyota would sell a vehicle like that. I bought it at night so I didn't notice. I will call toyota And ask.

Depending on lighting and angles I see similar anomalies in my silver sky metallic.

Same thing with my camper shell

Unless the vehicle was painted all at once from the same batch of paint at the same time, there will always be discrepancies like these, it simply has to do with the amount of flop control compound variations (metallics) in the paint itself and the flash time on the reducers used.

Slight changes in the surrounding atmosphere speeding or slowing flash time will affect the amount of time the metallic flakes have had to 'lay down' if you will, and their orientation is what causes this dark/light effect, not to mention the direction and manner with which they were laid down with in the first place.

Just thought I'd mention it in this thread, in all likelihood that door was just from a slightly different batch when it came time for final assembly. :D

The weirdest thing about this is that it is the same door on all these trucks. Makes me wonder if the rear passenger door is a common area of the Tacoma (any Tacoma) that is damaged during transit. If so, why just that one door? Weird...

Mine too. Only when the light catches it just right. Pyrite. I bought mine brand new, watched them unload it off the truck and refused to let them remove any of the plastic. They let me drive it home that way where I unwrapped it myself. I'm weird, I get it. My OCD probably requires medication.
