How about hitting the top of the chrome lettering with a fine sandpaper wrapped on a block of wood to rough up the chrome, then covering the lettering with clay, exposing only the faces of the letters. Clean with mineral spirits, and spray desired color. Remove clay after paint dries, wipe hands on pants.
