So I have an '07 And the paint on the passengers side is fading a bit. Anyone who is in the body business know what it might be and how much it might cost to correct it. It's only on the top part of the doors. I will post pictures if anyone is interested in helping out a bit. Any info would be helpful I just want my taco well again.

It's hard to tell because I'm on my phone but see if some detailing shop will give those spots a good wet sand/polish and it should take care of it.

Is it rough or smooth when your run your fingers over it?

If that is in the clear, a detailer should be able to buff that out.

That looks like a good body shop should be able to get that looking good again. Why does the passenger side of your truck look so much more weathered that the driver side?

Also get that nasty green shit off the rubber moldings or that's gonna turn into an issue too.

Was that side of the truck in an accident it almost looks like wetsanding haze?

try polishing it or have someone do it. That should clean it up, but if it's like that from the elements and theres nothing sitting on top of it the clear coat might be whats fading (pretty odd if thats the case). But if that is the case go to a body shop and ask how much just to reclear the panels. I would guestimate approximate $400/panel give or take depending on r&i's and assuming you dont go to a cut rate shop that will just tape everthing off.

Do you park with one side to the harsh sun all the time?

Are both picture sets of the same truck even?

It looks like the passenger side was repaired and the painter did a really shitty job and now it is showing it. IMO I might try a professional detailer first, but I think it is going to need a prep and repaint to make it actually look right.

Have you, or your kids, been applying bug spray and then hanging arms out the windows? Bug spray will do that to that part of a door just outside the window, it can eat the clearcoat and make it hazy. A quick polishing can completely eliminate the haze as long as there is enough clearcoat left there to work with.

There are also some really harsh cleaners out there that can cause this, some of the bug'n'tar products can do that and it looks like you or somebody may have tried something too harsh to clean something on that area in the past. I've seen someone with a brand new honda clean the entire vehicle with spray 9 on a hot day and the entire vehicle needed to be polished to remove that haze.

You may need to replace those rubber moldings if you can't get that nasty stuff off. You should be able to find some at a "pick and pull" type place that are in good shape, if you don't want to buy new from Toyota. As for the paint work, a professional detailer should be able to polish the haze out of the clearcoat.

Yeah that was my first thought. A shitty repair job. Assuming both pictures are from the same truck.

Can't tell if you're serious or joking... But in case you're serious yes, yes there is something wrong with masking shit off. When you mask items off such as door handles often its done poorly and the tape doesn't cover enough of the handle or it covers too much and overhangs on the door. Sure there's thin line tape that will help you get in there tighter but will not even come close to remove the handle and back masking. Not too mention the most important issue is when you mask an item off you can only prep up to your tape line. If you remove the handle and prep up to the opening and paint everything when you reinstall the handle it sits on top of everything you've painted, it doesn't butt match to it. This prevents your biggest problem (and in my opinion the tell tale sign of a poor or cheap shop) which is clear or paint peeling or flaking back from the point it has been masked.

Yeah there was nothing in the carfax about a wreck when I bought the truck so unless they paid out of pocket to have it fixed it hasn't been in an accident that I know of but that was my first thought because that side of the truck gets no more or less sunlight than the other. I keep it in the garage. It stops with the doors and fender the roof and bed of the truck are normal. And no I don't use bug spray. What would be a good place to start to get the moldy looking stuff off the black part? I have been trying to get that mess off of there since I bought the truck. How much would it normally cost to have a detail shop try to buff that out? Thanks for all of the replys you guys have been really helpful!

By "buff that out" I mean the fading paint not the black part lol just thought I would be a little clearer on that.

I have the same thing happening to one of my panels. I would say that you need to take care of it soon because mine is to a point that I will have to have it repainted.

My molding below the windows looked just like yours. They are somewhat easy to remove and replace and made a hell of a difference. I think I paid $18 a piece.

I can't tell you how much a detail shop will charge you because that's out of what I usually deal with. However there is a guy that works in our shop that is great at polishing and he does it on the side for cash. I believe he charged on guy about $500 to polish his entire car. My guess is he would charge about $100 for the 2 doors. But again I have no idea what an actual detail shop would charge. And as already mentioned the belt mouldings are pretty easy to change if you can get them at a price you're happy with.
