For those that are getting their trucks repaired - are they painting / blending into adjacent panels?

I had 2 sections about 3 inches long where the fender meets the hood , near the windshield. Repainted both fenders and the hood.

Both rear doors are peeling next to window seem and left front fender is peeling between hood. I was told a complete re-paint of both rear doors and left fender and takes a week to complete.

First time I had mine looked at by my local dealer they did nothing for me. Second time I spoke with the manager and just explained my situation and that Ive been a loyal customer for decades. Still at that time he said nothing they can do but wait for manufactures response. Two days later I get a call from manager and he said out of good faith we will take care of u but cannot provide a loaner car. Just talk to a manager like I did.

So the first time was my rear passenger door and the dealership I bought it from submitted a claim and it was approved to get repainted. The second time was my rear driver side door. I took it to the dealership down the street from where I live. I had to fight tooth and nail for Toyota to finally approve my claim “as a good will” since I was out of warranty by 2 weeks by time not by mileage. They wouldn’t cover my rental either. Now the third time is my passenger side door that is peeling in the same areas as the rest of my doors. I contacted the dealership I bought it from and he said he will file another claim to see what happens. 3 times in less then 2 years is ridiculous to have the paint peeling 3 separate times. The truck is a 2017 and should be considered a lemon by now.

I’m having them do the fenders I can live with the hood and roof as-is. Took forever to get approved. Anyone else having luck?

Toyota finally agreed to paint our 2016 Tacoma... more than a year later from our first request. They agreed to do it as a “one-time curtesy” for us since no active campaign is available for Tacomas at this time. From start to finish, this was the most time-consuming, stressful process I have gone through. The dealership advocating for this was probably the only reason it was finally done. Last year when I started the process and spoke with the corporation the they flat out refused to help us out. A couple of months ago the truck started peeling in multiple new locations. We brought it back and after a month of continued back-and-forth, Toyota finally did the right thing and covered the paint job.

If it makes you guys feel better the front fenders on my 2010 Frontier Pro-4x started peeling this year. I was aware of the issue as it was limited to certain colours and model years. Had a local guy repair it for $340. I'd be really annoyed if it was a fairly new & pristine truck. Not so bad at the 10 year mark.

So it finally happened to me too! I went to the car wash yesterday at Toyota. They always wash my truck after a service but they keep their car wash open to the general public. I took it through and then upon drying it I noticed the paint peeled. I can’t tell if it was from that wash or had been happening prior and I didn’t notice it. The service department was already closed so I wasn’t able to take it right in. Going to go today and see what they say. My truck is right at the end of the lease this month and I was going to buy but I guess now I might look into getting a new one. Anyone have a suggestion on what they would do at end of lease if this happens? 1A438E2A-2C84-4AB7-8EE1-7584EABFFD6C.jpg

So I just finally after months of putting off calling Toyota reached out to Toyota customer care and voiced my concerns. They said because I was out of the warranty period that they would not fix it. They did say though that if more people had expressed concerns by calling them that repairs could be done in the future possibly. Well on the positive side for right now my paint peeling hasn't grown but it still is pretty much all behind that rear passenger window.

My truck is back in the body shop getting the two front fenders painted after 1.5 months ago getting the back doors painted. Toyota is picking up all charges including the rental car. It will be interesting to see if other areas start peeling after this bout.

That’s how mine started... eventually it peeled in the upper trim of rear windows, driver’s side window frame, edges of fenders under the hood, and the truck bed between cabin and bed. (I was told at Dealer that they also tend to peel in the frame area above windshield and the hood.)

Good lucky you with Toyota... Toyota gave me same response over a year ago. I was 2 months past warranty. The rep went further to lie and say I was the first customer to report this issue with a Tacoma. My advise is to be persistent and keep taking it back to the dealer every time you see new area peeling.

Over a year later, Toyota finally agreed to paint all but one door and the top of the cabin (the only 2 areas without peeling) as a one-time curtesy to me. It makes me upset that they keep denying the issue for Tacomas and that they make it nearly impossible if your car is out of warranty.

My 2016 white tacoma also peeling on both of my front fenders right on the top when you open the hood. Just talked with the paint specialist here at Maui Toyota and he said their all booked to get that check until next year in January. That's like 2 months I have to wait and the claim will take another 4-7 weeks to either know if they will cover fully, partially or none at all. My 3 year warranty past but cmon man. Paint job suppose to last more then the 4 years I had on this truck. I have a 06 civic si for over 14 years and the only thing happened to its paint is the clear coat started to peel off and that started probably after 10 years. Toyota better cover in full
