@CharlieWork I'm working with McGeorge Toyota on West Broad Street here in RVA. However, I still have not heard back from anybody since August(ish) after the rep inspected my truck.

It's happening on the 2017 I drive for work. There's also the same issue around the edge of the hood below the windshield. Don't have touch up paint at the moment, so I just hit it with some clear coat to at least keep rust from happening while I convince my boss we need to get some touch up paint for all our white trucks.

@BTL Y-Wing Make an appointment with the dealership you purchased the trucks from, take a box of donuts, and ask to speak with the manager. Let them know, you know, that all of the other toyota models with the same white paint codes have been issued recalls, and that only the Tacoma hasn't been included, and you want them to start a file with Toyota corporate and have their local rep come out and inspect the trucks and measure the paint. The more people who do this, the sooner (hopefully) more of us have a chance at getting this repaired or something helpful. I can't stand this sh*t.

This. I don't see the paint falling off of other vehicles.

Exact same thing happened to me today in the exact same spot. I already have a service appointment set for recall work on the center taillight a d my horn which once activated does not stop honking until the engine is shut off. Hoping they can fix the new paint issue as well. I also have a white 2017 limited. Sometimes I really miss my 2010.

Signed a while back when this was shared on one of the FB groups. Also an update to my white paint, now it's chipping off in the same back window spot, driver's side, next to window.

I'm experiencing the same issue but on my driver side fender ledge, under the hood.

@tacoteeko. I was able to get Toyota to do a one-time paint fix when my truck was about 4 years old after following up with them for about a year. It looked great and I was proud of Toyota for (reluctantly) stepping up, but alas a year later (year 5 for my 2017 TRD OR) the other side of the door frames started flaking. Toyota is playing hard ball this round. I took it to the dealer and had them take photos and send in the issue to corporate when they fixed it the first round but that strategy failed the second time with the same dealer. They filed the issue but it got rejected by the regional service manager. Good luck. If anyone is the SF Bay Area (CA) and wants to go to a dealer as a group with the same issue in hopes that might make a difference, hit me up.

Crap. I just bought a 2022 white rig earlier this week. Is this what I have to look forward to? I had no idea…. Any progress with the petition? Any recalls yet? You think they may have mixed the paint better for later models by now? Blah.

Overall I think it’s probably a small minority that end up having this problem, I wouldn’t stress until there’s something to stress about.

take it back, get a different color. dealers deny the problem, toyota doesn't give a shit...I might take mine in just to add to the plethora of complaints...and there IS a plethora of complaints NOT just tacomas...but I don't know because they won't do shit about it yet....no...no recalls, they don't even acknowledge the problem sadly

incorrect, it seems to be a pretty common issue ACTUALLY...I only saw that after I bought mine. My 2017 tacoma took until just now to show the problem in 2022...others saw it sooner. No matter how you look at it, factory paint flaking off that soon is UNACCEPTABLE no matter how uncommon it is...and this is ACTUALLY very common apparently for the white toyotas. I wouldn't buy a white toyota anything to be honest.

yes you can. I haven't heard of anyone getting toyota to actually fix this...note the article makes NO mention of tacomas. They're not going to fix it unless we MAKE them, do what you want but hoping for the best is not going to end well. I'd take it back and get a different color honestly, take less time to get a new color than get them to agree to fix it. of course, if it's been more than a month you probably can't just take it back...I'd try my damnedest too though

Uhhhh, I’m not saying it’s acceptable or that it’s not happening or that it’s not a problem. As it clearly is and has been for quite some time. What I’m saying is that of the many thousands of white Tacoma’s on the road it’s probably a small percentage that have their paint flaking off. My point was for the guy not to stress himself out over something that hasn’t even become a problem for him yet. I’d never buy white after seeing this and anytime someone mentions wanting to buy white on here before they have, I make an effort to make them aware of potential issues. Anyways hope you get you paint figured out, my Quicksand looks great!
