A few 18's and 19s have reported it as well and my 15 had it, typical toyota, let's not REALLY fix it, maybe it'll go away on its own (I.E. rotting frames).

Got a call today from my local Toyota dealership and they approved to repaint both rear doors and front left fender at no cost to me. But, there is catch. Going to take 10 days and they will not provide me a loaner car. Cool they are trying to fix it but 10 days with no loaner car? Now I have to figure out a rental for 10 days etc. Keep fighting, Obviously they know it’s an issue.

I would, they should offer you a loaner even if its not one of theirs, contracted one from enterprise or something seen those before. I'd raise hell a bit more, that's not a big ask.

Lots of guys on here wrap critical and high impact areas of the vehicle to prevent rock chips, myself included. To wrap an entire vehicle is very expensive, plus you shouldn't have to wrap your vehicle to keep your 2-4 year old paint from flaking off like dandruff. The fact that Toyota is not making more of an effort to prevent and rectify this is pretty disgusting.

It’s happening to some, not all but flaking is a issue with this paint which are used in other manufacturers. I had a 2013 Honda with this
    issue.

    :: Warning::

DO NOT do anything other than wash and wax to your paint. When it comes to paint defect, auto manufacturers like to view each one of these claims case by case before approval, so doing wrap could potentially be used against you since most are not approved by their standard.

Thanks to TW members posting their experiences with the super white paint, it sucks that the paint has this issue. My solution was to get the truck ceramic coated which is great and I recommend it, but it’s expensive and also requires a yearly maintenance that’s costs about $300 if you want to keep the warranty.

If you don’t mind sharing what was the initial cost of the coating?

Hate to break it to you but ceramic coating won’t prevent it, it’s an issue with the paint bonding to the primer / sealer. Your coating bonds to the paint/clearcoat, which is what is flaking / separating.

Have experience with multiple coatings and the warranty does not cover (let me guess ceramic pro?) paint issues, even doing your maintainence washes topcoat of cp sport / light. $300 is rough too, should be $200 most for that.

I certainly love how TW members make so many assumptions on a little bit of information.
Yes it’s ceramic pro, no it wasn’t exactly $300 I just rounded up because I don’t have the receipt I front of me.
Never said it was infallible but I like that the truck always looks clean and shiny, and when it doesn’t a 5 minute power wash is all it takes to clean.
It’s the 5 year package and it cost me $1200 but that included the topper and the paint correction (had extensive spiderweb scratches from taking it weekly to a carwash with rollers)
I actually didn’t know that the yearly maintenance cost extra, but figure nothing about owning a Tacoma is cheap, and I don’t mind supporting a local mom and pop shop (within reason)

What assumptions were made there bud? I've coated a few trucks in CP, since 2015 and have worked with other coatings as well. I am very familar with the product, process and "warranty". Sounds like you went with the silver package (one layer of 9H and one of light / sport), $1200 is about right, CP actually sets price points for their installers and thats right at it. And no one is arguing the benefits of a ceramic coating, I've done it on all my trucks and family member's vehicles, what we are arguing is that the coating will not prevent the underlying issue of the paint flaking, further more you are in an even harder place because when or if your paint does flake you have lost out on that money you spent on the coating (look at your warranty with a careful eye, repairs are not covered).

Has nothing to do with single stage. This problem is occasionally occurring on 089 which is a 3 stage primer/mica/clear.

White vehicles use a white primer. The fact that you can see the green ED coat underneath tells me it's the primer adhesion that has failed.

The fact that this is occurring across multiple vehicle models produced in different plants tells me this is a supplier material issue. Not a process issue.

Absolute truth, lack of adhesion to the substrate.

I think ceramic coat is most effective protecting the top layer of the clear coat/single stage paint.

@TacoBuffet, It’s nothing personal, and just the nature of the internet; gotta take everything with a grain of salt, especially on TW.
In any case I’m just trying to do what I can to protect the paint, but if and when it fails that’s on Toyota and I will probably (grudgingly) shell out the cash to fix it.

You're doing everything you can at the moment, I get it, just didn't want you having a false sense of security, you didnt overpay for your coating in my opinion and you picked a good one, just sucks that you even have to worry about the paint flaking from poor primer / sealer from the factory. Seems like Toyota has been taking care of everyone even out of warranty, so worst case you'll have to shell out for another coating.

    UPDATE***

Since my contact to corporate via online contact form, they emailed stating they want me to call so they can get as much info as they can. Called spoke with a representative that just handles incoming calls. They transferred me to an actual claims officer. She stated that there are no active programs (recalls) for this. She did say a file was started for the issue for my vehicle.

so moral of the story, EVERYONE please call corporate and do the same thing! If enough people file an issue for this toyota might look into then. The more people that call, the better it might be for us.

attached is a copy of my email from them.
