Dealer ain’t gonna do anything you can see the damage to the rear window sill. Obviously the rail got scratched and is now corroding because of it

Looks like it. Looks like the OP needs to wash his truck at least once every few months. Geeeeze.

Here's mine. I live in Texas, so I'm thinking its just sun blasted. I just bought the truck, and I'm looking into removing it to paint it, and was wondering what paint would be best? A flat black I'm assuming, but a "Rhino liner" type treatment might look nice as well. thoughts?

I had the same Issue, I was blaming my dirtbike tires, because the peeling was right where the tire stop.
The peeling on my 16 looked more like OP but right in the center and about the size of a quarter.

No, sorry that's a reflection. The OP had the seal damage, mine is just the paint area shown.

Bull Shit - you simply hate Tacomas there Smitty Jr. How do you not know the forks of his/hers bikes didn't scratch it? Or heck, something else did not scratch it? Of course not, jump on "Tacomas suck" band wagon cause that is all you do in this forum. If I hate a car so much, I actually do something about it - gasp what a concept. No, instead one wants to constantly on a enthusiasts forum.

Look up a 20 year old Taurus - 2008 For Taurus and tell me what the top 5 complaints are?

Looks like something was rubbing on it, maybe the forks or a part of the bike

Wouldn't hurt to wash it once in awhile. Pull the rail off and paint it......problem solved

UPDATE: Took about 10 minutes to pull it off with a T30 star ratchet, and looks good as new.

BTW: There is a factory applied tin strip of foam on the inside lip. I went to Lowes and bought this and it works great. Actually thicker (and at $3.40 definitely cheaper) than the OEM one, and it actually made a better seal once sucked down when the bolts are reattached.

I used the Krylon Truck bed coating, and it couldn't of been easier to apply. Went on super smooth, no troubles!

I've got the same thing on my 16. Just not been impressed with the overall quality of paint job of my truck. Still love the truck, just disappointing Toyota lets this pass.

I like how people see this and wonder why its happening like a year after its started.

The time to fix this was the moment one realized a single fleck of black paint coming off. Not after it starts rusting and its pretty much garanteed not to be fixable.

I’d take it to a body shop for evaluation.
