Paint issue on 25’Silver TRD OR.

I received a denial for buyback letter from Toyota yesterday as well. Seems like some people were taken care of before Toyota realized the scale of their problem. Once I received the letter I called Toyota Brand Engagement and the person I got on the phone told me they were no longer allowed to talk to me about my case because it was now labeled, Lemon Law. Not sure what that means? I never asked for things to go that route, I merely asked for buyback or replacement (which they had originally asked me if would be interested in). I asked to have my case manager to call me and have heard nothing as of yet, feels a bit like a door was shut in my face. I have been offered a repaint of the hood and roof of my truck, I was really hoping to avoid this option. Repainting the hood not such a big deal, the roof is a whole other ball of wax. To do the roof, basically everything above the door jams has to be removed... windshield, rear window and seals, roof panel, drip moldings, all door pillar trims, etc. Also rear interior kick panels, pillar trims, scuff plates and get this... the headliner too so they can remove the antenna from the roof. It is an invasive and costly fix but I guess I'm going to go for it and hope for the best and assume that if things get worse, Toyota will take care of me.

Ironically, today an electrician working on a house across the street from me had a brand new (5 days old) Tacoma pretty much exactly like mine... in Celestial Silver. I went over to say hi and we looked at his paint, same paint issue on his truck and he had no idea. Manufactured in Baja... he was pretty bummed.

I went from a 2023 RAM 1500 that turned out to be a Lemon, ugh, to my Tacoma. I reached out to my lawyer from that case and asked if he'd be willing to have a brief conversation about this matter. He basically told what I already knew, his words:

...You are going to have to take it back to the dealership for repairs before it would qualify for California’s lemon law. You could possibly have an implied warranty claim without any visits or warranty repairs, but an express warranty claim is much stronger and more likely to lead to a repurchase. California’s lemon law requires a minimum of two visits to qualify, so I would recommend taking it back to the dealership and have them look at the paint issue again. That letter is just their standard denial response...

And:

...I would recommend having the Toyota dealership perform any repair(s) they feel are necessary. If they don’t successfully repair it, then you can take in again and start accruing the necessary warranty repair history for a potential lemon law claim...

In the end, it's not like the truck doesn't run right or is unsafe and... Toyota is willing to try and take care of the the problem. If they don't succeed... then maybe I'll have a leg to stand on. I think at this point I'm gonna just have to roll with it and hope for the best. I've done the Lemon Law thing already, it takes forever and is a drain on life.

 

lemon law is buyback, you will never get them to replace the truck.
Also makes zero sense to me, you get a denial letter,
but they state theyre no longer allowed to talk to you due to lemon law...
Did they make judgement on the actual lemon law or still in process?
If they denied you, must include some sort of detailed explanation.....
Did dealer take pics & submit a claim for you?
Did they call you & have an use inspect the vehicle at the dealer?
Find a way to request a call back from your claims rep, they have to give you an explanation.

 

I didn't think it was an option. To my surprise, they asked me if I was interested in a replacement. I told them yes...

Without seeing all the documentation & not knowing every step taken, piece by piece, im no help....

Apparently I have a Cinderella story. About as clean and expeditious as they come. Toyota never said repair/ repaint. Went straight to buyback. Again I believe it was my dealer that turned the screws after we got the ball rolling. All of this in a three month footprint.

side note: I ended up with a white rig out or the same Baja factory and its top notch. So very pleased.(long bed now..may be regretting it a bit) That said I’ve seen several new silver trucks on area dealers lots looking as bad as my original daisy

 

Let us know how that white paint holds up after a few years.

White paint yellows over time and shows all the road tar and splash up.

Majority of trucks in sd are white....
Never seen a yellow one...
Most of us wash our trucks & youre an idiot if you drive down a road with fresh tar, where I come from....
Let alone if you get tar on your paint, its not anything permanent...

My mother has a 00 ford explorer, its not "yellow"....
So when is the yellow color change suppose to take place?
Just bought my kid a 15 year old ford ranger, still waiting for it to turn yellow I guess....
