The other issue with white paint is it yellows over time and shows all the tar, tire rubber, road splash up, ect.

    FYI,

Toyota released T-SB-0113-24 on December 5, 2024 instructing dealerships to inspect the paint for "chips/scratches." I understand the issue with your truck isn't a chip or scratch, but the dealership should have noticed the problem during inspection.

Trading silver for Toyota white all depends on whether you’re a blotch man or prefer flakes.

From my experience, I’d recommend anything in a shade of Guanajuato.

My Supersonic Red came from there. It is incredibly thin. So I guess which factory you buy from will depend upon which paint defect you want.

Dealerships don't care. I've found so many obvious defects that PDI should have caught when I've bought or test drove various brands. And as far as this TSB, I've mentioned before when I was at my local dealer, every silver Tacoma I looked at had serious paint defects on the right bedsides and I wasn't even carefully looking at paint that day.

THATS VERY GENERIC, BASICALLY MAKE SURE YOU DO YOUR JOB & DONT HAVE ANY OVERSIGHTS, that will equate to a pissed off consumer & / or a buy back...
    Manufacturer Communication Number: T-SB-0113-24

    Summary

Pre-Delivery Service (PDS) is a critical step in satisfying our new car customers. Customer feedback indicates the following areas deserve special attention when performing PDS:•Careful inspection for paint chips/scratches and body dents/dings.•Proper operation of electrical accessories (including interior light, clock, and radio reset).•Interior cleanliness.•Proper function of mechanical systems.Customer retention and proper maintenance of vehicles are, and have always been, a major focus for Toyota. To help remind customers that regular service is essential to the proper maintenance of the vehicle, dealers are required to install a service reminder sticker before delivery. By doing this, customers will be reminded to return to your dealership for service. Your current service reminder sticker may be used. (See PDS Check Sheet item 8 of “Final Inspection and Cleaning.”)

This bulletin contains the PDS procedures that apply specifically to 2025 model year Tacoma and Tacoma Hybrid vehicles.

Refer to T-SB-0028-24, the universal Check Sheet that contains PDS steps that apply to al 2025 model year Toyota vehicles. To properly perform a complete PDS, you must complete all procedures contained in this TSB as well as the universal PDS Check Sheet. In addition, if the vehicle is stored for over 30 days, refer to T-SB-0023-24, Long-Term Vehicle Storage Guidelines.

The dealership that sold this particular silver TRD Off Road might, if Toyota does indeed buy back the truck, or any other truck sold after the TSB was released.

To be fair, the TSB says to check for paint chips/scratches and body dent/dings. That's not what was wrong with the OP's truck. Depending on the light and how close they were to the truck, I could see them missing this. The OP missed it when he bought it. That said if the dealers catch this first and tell Toyota "we can't sell this crap", maybe Toyota will do better. I'm also sure there are a lot of subpar paint jobs out there that non-discriminating owners don't realize they have.

The majority of trucks are probably presold dealership isn't giving up or delaying the sale. I'm sure they see the defects and sell the truck anyway.

I pointed this out when I posted the TSB. The point being, Toyota told the dealerships to pay special attention to the paint. How many unhappy customers and buybacks will it take to get the dealerships to do their job? This is part of the $1,495 delivery, processing, and handling fee we all pay.

I disagree. The operation/function of electrical accessories and mechanical systems may work when it initially rolls off the assembly line but then glitches out. Dealers need to check that. During transport, the vehicle could get scratched or dented - dealers need to check that. The paint didn't suddenly get blotchy - Toyota should have caught that.

I think you misunderstood my comment. Blotchy paint, chips, or dents, someone between the factory and the dealership should have caught this. Part of the $1,495 is for dealer prep, which should include making sure the paint isn't blotchy.

Between QC and dealership they saw it but turned a blind eye to it. If the customer doesn’t catch it Toyota figures that’s one more that got sold defective.

I'll admit the dealership I bought from did a good PDI and pre-delivery cleanup. My extreme research on dealerships paid off big this time. I called ahead and the unit I asked about was already spotless. When I test drove it my fingernail lightly scratched the top of the door panel and I casually mentioned, "man this plastic scratches easily". But I figured some Aerospace 303 would fix that. After I paid for it the salesman took it in the back for final stuff like floor mats, bed liner, etc and the scratch was gone when it came back. I had a no hassle deal, discounted price, great trade value for my Grand Cherokee and top it off with zero pre-loads. That's the first time I was able to buy a vehicle with no add ons since 1985. My worst PDI was a new 1990 Mustang 5.0 and the first and last time I bought a car at night. It came with seriously pitted paint on left fender, flat spare tire and an inop radio. Their attempt to fix the paint made it worse. They fixed the flat. And the radio they jacked me around on. Back then all Ford radios were the same so I knew they could swap from another unit if they wanted to. I finally had it with jacking me around so I went to the dealership, spun my Mustang around sideways so it blocked the service drive, went in to see the service manager and demanded a new radio now. At that time one of the service advisers came in asking for my keys so they could unblock the driveway. I looked at the manager and asked, so do I get a new radio or does my car sit where it is? He looked at the service adviser and told him to take my car in the back and swap radios. Problem solved.

Ive pointed out many paint defects to a handful of T dealers in my area, they just stay on the lot until theyre sold.
Wait till the customer complains & address it then...
Not all paint issues result in a buy back, theres plenty that are just blemishes, paint defects in 1 or 2 panels & end result is color sand / wet sand, paint correction, repaint 1-2 panels & give it back to the customer....
First attempt on my truck, wet sand 1 door, then when I found the other blem in the front door they were going to wet sand with the intent that will most likely need a door repainted, Before I had toyota inspect the truck I realized the shit was everywhere....
The FSE / FST recommendation was to wet sand my entire truck but the roof, which was the worst of it...
His mindset was, "cant see the roof from line of sight so were going to leave it alone".......

I said F you, youre not touching the paint again as long as I own the truck & pushed for the buy back.

Toyota’s white paint is also notoriously bad as well.
