So guys, thank you for having me here, I am a new Tacoma owner. My wife thought it would be nice while I am here in Afghanistan to buy me something to pull my boat and bow hunt in. She bought me a 2000 taco with 205k miles. I got the truck for 5k cash but it has its flaws. Has a few big dents(like really big). I am thinking of spending another 800.00 to repair the body and paint it myself when I get back. I will probably throw an acrylic enamel single stage paint job on it. I have the money to do it no problem, but I need some moral support from you guys. I plan on keeping the truck, but its got 200k on it. Would I be stretching my investment if I choose to paint it?

Thanks for your service over there!

I think it would be worth it, especially if you know someone that can give you a deal. If you ever end up in southwestern pa, I know a guy at does great work and could probably give you a pretty good price. I had a 97 integra that I had mostly reprinted because the red faded to pink and it made me love the car that much more since it was no longer pink and looked pretty close to new. Go for it!

I would say go for it and you said you can get it done for $800 i would be all over that. if i didnt hunt in my truck every year i would repaint it, but the truck gets thrashed out in the woods.

I figure 800, I might be able to do it for less. Paint is 295, then a 80.00 stud gun kit from harbor freight, body hammers, primer, filler, etc. I have a paint booth on Ft Stewart I can use for 8 dollars a day. I think I am going to do it minus the jams, between the bed and cab, and the engine comp. I'll be going with the same color so should look good.

At 205k, I'd be more concerned about the timing belt, if its a 3.4L, than the paint.

Its a 2.7, I thought about doing the oil pump, timing chains, water pump and head gasket but its a easy enough job Ill probably wait. I will however replace the oil pump as a precaution when I get back
