Clear coat failures are common on flat surfaces like roof and hood, top edges of doors, etc.

Most likely to happen in sun baked parts of the country and on vehicles that are not regularly cleaned and waxed.

Pictures of your problem would be helpful, especially if you have base coat loss revealing primer or bare metal.

BTW, there does not need to be a 'recall' to correct a paint situation from poor factory application. However, the vehicle generally must still be in warranty to do so.

    Read the warranty for yourself.

You may be past the dates/mileage for paint warranty since it is almost 4 model years old.

And you still don't speak to where it lives or care that it may or may not have received.

But I'd get it repainted by a quality shop and get some protection going on the rest of the truck before it's too late.

My truck is a dark gray 2018 as well and the paint is fading on the top and hood, BAD!

I live in SoCal and the weather isn't crazy over here.

My brother in law works for a Toyota dealership and trying to get the paint warrantied for me through the body shop; they haven't said no, just waiting for the main guy to take a look at the truck.
