My 17 super white taco has the same problem. Paint is starting to flake on the drivers side front fender near the seem between the fender and the hood. This along with the 3rd brake light recall, fuel pump recall and the frame plug recall is disappointing.

Update: I took my truck into Auburn, Ca. Toyota bodyshop and they submitted the claim to Toyota manufacturer. Although the Tacoma was not included with the Corolla judgments the shop was aware of the same super white paint code. The manufacturer initially only granted the right rear door and with my insistence and the body shop’s further inspection, they found issues with the paint on surfaces of all doors, cab, hood and fenders. The Manufacturer accepted the additional claim to a tune of over $4,500 in repainting everything but the bed and the front bumper. Go out there and get it Superwhite tacos!!!!

2017 TRD OR and having the exact same issue in the same spot. Talked to my two local dealerships and have gotten nowhere. A bunch of other Toyota white models are having what appear to them to be the same paint failure but the tacos aren’t part of the list of cars that can get the paint fixed on Toyotas dime. My dealer recommend i call corporate and like you said help add to the list of folks complaining. At some point they will “warranty” it.

Did you go to Freeman Toyota in Santa Rosa? I believe they have their own body shop. I will check my docs to see if they put some type of factory recall code on it, but I didn’t think I initially saw one. Or you can contact Auburn Toyota less than 2 hours away from you.

Maybe we should also start a Tacomaworld class action law suit! With our forum member numbers and audience reach, I’m sure we can bend the ear of corporate!!!!!

I wouldnt be ok with this. You will end up with a front doot and truck bed that doesnt match the rest of the truck.

It is nice that they are admitting fault, and covering some of the work, but they should go all in at that point.

I had the same issue and they painted my hood and rear doors doors as one time goodwill gesture. You have to call corporate and tell them you are on Tacoma world forum and all years are having this problem with 040 and people are talking about Class Action against Toyota. I did talk to a Class Lawyer who was already seeing Toyota for another issue and he was very interested in the case. They folded when I brought that up and since they picked up the cost I dropped it..... If I can help let me know.

this is a copy of the invoice. It says perform service campaign ZKG and perform paint repairs per goodwill campaign. I spoke with Auburn Collision Center and they confirmed ZKG is the campaign and other vehicles continue to get added. Toyota corporate only covers the paint on the metal surfaces not plastic bumpers. Better than nothing!

For the 3rd gen's it's been predominantly the 16's, 17's and a few 18's out of the Mexico plant as far as I know. My 2020 has been issue free so far.

My Tacoma has had the same issue. I called them just a few weeks out of my warranty and they wouldn't do anything for me. Dealer didnt and Toyota Customer department didnt after I submitted a case. I suppose I could have yelled at them, but you're really just yelling at a random customer service rep who just wants to work 8-5 and go home.

Ive posted on my local FB group about starting a class-action lawsuit. If someone else does, I will gladly join.

    I have the same problem.

Toyota fixed this issue on the drivers passenger door on a goodwill basis back in February 2020 (at 48,000 miles). In September 2021 I brought it into my dealer with 4 more areas and they got regional customer service to agree to repaint (at 60,000 miles). When it finally got to the body shop, last week, they found eleven (11) more places where the same flaking was happening. When this was brought up to regional customer service, they refused to add the new areas to the estimate and reneged on the original deal to repaint the first 4 areas I found.

Needless to say, I was dumbfounded. I called Toyota at 800 331 4331. I was stonewalled. "Not covered, Out of Warranty, Not included in the current ZKG Customer Service Program"

I have been a long time Toyota customer - at least 6 Corollas, a Camry, a Sienna, three Prius. Then the Tacoma. Given the estimates from the body shop to repaint, my truck is now worth only about half of its Blue Book.

My dealer said to continue to call Toyota to complain. Anyone that has this issue with 040 Super White on a Tacoma should call. Toyota needs to see complaints to pile up in their database so it becomes obvious to them that they have a ton of unhappy customers that will buy elsewhere in the future if they continue to be treated secondarily compared to owners of Corollas, Camrys, 4 Runners, Avalons, GX470's, RAV4's, Scion xB's. Those owners are being treated fairly over this matter.

I am only uploading one pic. No need to see all 16.

If you are affected, call Toyota Customer Service and complain so we can make this right for all owners with this problem.

Called the Corporate line and they didn't want to do anything for me until I pushed them-- mentioned this forum and how many folks were dealing with the same issue. Then they finally said I could file a claim if I provided an estimate to fix the damaged area. What's precarious about this is that it seems like we all have the paint peeling in the same location.

This really should be a class action suit. It's clearly a manufacturing error. The way Toyota tries to dodge doing right by its customers is the part that irritates me. I've only bought Toyota vehicles. If they don't fix this I'll never buy a Toyota again.
