2014 Tacoma....well kept....washed, clay barred and waxed twice a year. So I was washing and waxing my truck today and noticed this
I don't usually use the passenger side door and washed and waxed the truck back in Feb. or March and did not notice anything. The paint is bubbling....no rust but it looks as though it was just paint on metal and no primer? The rest of the trucks paint is in excellent shape except for this one spot which is probably 7 inches long where it is peeled off or bubbling. Any ideas on the easiest fix? Like I said...the rest of the truck looks great.

I am of no help but it looks like it may be a strip of body glue? And that’s just terrible. The paint coming off of it could be from the movement you get out of that stuff. Sorry for your luck on that man.

I have the same problem on the passenger side and mine is a 2006. There is not rust yet. My plan was to sand the loose paint off and repaint with touch up paint. It does't have to look pretty since the most of the door is hiding it. My main goal is to prevent rust.

Nothing wrong with the driver side though.

Thanks Hans, may go to the dealer for some touch up paint or pick some up online. Truck is only 4 years old with 30K on her and I want to keep her for as long as possible.

My truck has the same issue. This is who I got my paint pens from for the truck and they work great. I will probably go through them for some touch up paint to fix the door jam.

Damn that sucks. At least it's on the inside so any body shop should be able to blend it without having to paint the entire section & it won't be noticeable. In your case I don't think a touch up pen/brush bottle will fix that large of an area without looking like doodoo.

Wow, seems like a number of people are having this same issue. Wonder if there is a TSB for this cause there should be.

Why in the world is a 4 year old peeling paint already? I would complain to Toyota.

With 30.000 miles on it, I'd demand the dealership do something, or try another dealership. When mine was just out of warranty, I had the issue with the TRD Sport 17" wheels finish starting to bubble. I pushed it, they would not replace them but had them refinished. At least report it to Toyota. Thats not normal man. A $500 aftermarket paint job does that. I bought mine in 2006, In 2014 I decided to upgrade to a 2012-2015 front end, the rest of the truck had dings and stuff everywhere, so decided just to have the whole truck gone through, all dings and dents fixed, etc and all new paint. even with a sanding block, that OEM paint didn't chip like that. On old paint and new paint on my Tacoma Ive never seen tgat, only time I have seen that is a cheap paint job after a half azz repair.

Park next to a house are building with siding or some sort of strait lines on it in bright sun. Take pics of the truck, all sides and roof with the reflection of the building in the paint. I think someone rolled that truck man.

Dude, I bought the truck new.... It hasn't been wrecked. Like I said .... The rest of the trucks paint is fine -- it looks to me like they missed a step in the paint process in that area.

Yeah, that was my plan to begin with but I am taking it to the dealership to see what they say. 4 year old trucks shouldn't have peeling and bubbling paint.

So went into see the dealer and had them look at it....the collision manager looked at it and said the same thing we all did..."Shouldn't" be peeling there...But it is and there is NO damage there to cause it. He took pictures and said he would email them to his boss and asked if I wanted him to forward them to Toyota Corporate and I said yes. I asked if it would do any good and he told me straight out he didn't think so because it's 4 years old and out of warranty. I asked for an estimate and he had it written up in 10 minutes...$690( Labor, supplies and weather stripping) & they need the truck for 3 days!! I have a lot better things to do with $700...you know...like eat. So I will forward Toyota some of my own pictures but I am not expecting anything. I am now going to learn how to paint I guess.....will be checking YouTube for help. If anyone else has done this and has any ideas let me know....thanks for everyones responses. I'm not looking for perfection....just want to protect the metal so it doesn't rust.

on the bright side....it's a fairly out of the way spot since I don't have a lot of passengers...still sucks though.
