Just took the truck to the car wash that I've taken it too a hundred times, and the paint on the lower drivers side door started peeling off as I was washing it. I've never seen anything like this, anyone know what could be causing it? It's not on the rockers, just this one small area on the lower door. There is/was no rust, so I don't think that would have anything to do with it. Truck is garage kept.

Over the summer I did use a bunch of touch up paint from https://www.chipfixx.ca/ which is essentially touch up paint and then a leveler that you use to wipe off, on all of the lower doors/rocker panels/bed/hood/roof; this was my first thought, that maybe the leveler solution did something to the paint; but if that were the case then the rest of the doors and rocker panels and truck bed would have paint peeling off as well, but this is the only spot. And I don't even really recall touching up this area that much.

    Has anyone seen this before?

Is it possible that this area had been previously repaired/painted? Because I do notice that the rocker panel and door don't line up 100% perfectly

    good pix
yeah that is prior repair/paint issues
on your last pix....see how rough the bottom of door is?

to confirm take a magnet and move around outside door skin.....im sure your going to feel magnet loosing hold bc of filler
open door and look at door shell(non appearance portion) i bet you can see some body work done if you move the door seal/weatherstrip out of the way with your finger

that touch up paint is an option but 8 times out of 10.....looks worse
sucks that on the driver door (which you see every time you take a drive)

I'm 50/50 on that. The lower section of the doors and the rocker panels are not smooth from the factory- they have a slight texture to them. So that doesn't immediately rule the OP's pics as body work. It still might be, but the texture isn't a smoking gun.

Yeah, the paint at the bottom on both sides is textured and I thought that was from factory..

anyways, I'll try the magnet idea. It's just weird that there is white under the paint? Because when I have chips usually it chips down to the metal/primer which is a different colour, not white. The white almost makes me thing it was some sort of filler. I've had this truck for 4 years and washed it hundreds of times with the high pressure wands from the wash places, and this has never happened before.

That peeling/flaking is tell tale sign of prior paint/body work
This is to be expected with any 25yr old vehicle
Just pissed on drvr door you see every time

    if totally bothers you
Good news is that peeling in middle bottom of door
So a reputable body shop will not have to blend(color match) adjacent panels (fender and cab)
Depending on how much filler you find with magnet……(shop has to strip previous poor/failing work to paint correctly)
IMO looking at $500-$800 to get those hideous white marks out of driver door
    Best case scenario

I don't know. to play devils advocate, The inside of the door looked normal, also, if the door was fucked, it would have probably just been cheaper and easier to just get another door off a donor truck instead of repairing.

I'll do the magnet test today and see
