    Hello TW!

First time poster - wish it was for a happy reason.

As you can see I have a serious paint chipping/peeling problem. I noticed the first flakes about a month ago and since had to take it on a big road trip... but didn't think it would peel so quickly or in so many places.

Luckily, it's just the plastic front bumper and front passenger fender.. so no rusting. Quoted $1700 to fix at a local auto-body shop. I'll eventually have it done, but in the interim thought I'd try touch up paint.

Does anyone have any touch up tips? Bottle or aerosol? Here's the product a quick google search came up with:

    Thanks all

Black is pretty easy to match if you're going to DIY. I would just take that money and get an aftermarket bumper!

dang $1700 for an auto shop to correct that? I'd just get a aftermarket bumper at that point.

Lower front bumper is usually high impact area for rocks and debris anyway, if you're looking to save some cash, I'd just sand a bit and touch up spray and try to blend. Lucky you got black.

Damn... that sucks. This just all the sudden happened? I'd try and get ahold of Toyota. Seems like something they may be willing to fix (well.... probably not -- its worth a shot)

    Oh look, another mod....

I second what every one else has said. Get an aftermarket bumper. For half the cost of what they quoted you, you can get a nice full bumper-steel.

Edit: This one would look bad ass on your truck.

Now it’s black too? I’m thinking of getting another tacoma in super white bc I like the color … but I’m terrified. Anyone know if this paint issue is a 1/100 issue or more like 1/1000?

Idk. I’ve seen the super white Tacoma issue for years but, my tundra is super white and was built (all before the switch to Mexico) in the same factory as the Tacoma and mine is fine after 5+ years. My black Tacoma has had no issue either.

It could be that of the 1 million white third gens on the road, 20,000 have this issue. Two percent would be a lot but it’s still just 2 percent. Who know. Baffling. And baffling why nobody knows what caused this unacceptable bs

Looks like you got yourself a nice start to the coveted off-road flares a lot of sport/sr-5/sr but owners want

If you’re the second owner , it seems like the previous owner had an accident and replaced the bumper and front fender flares. Poor paint job .

Most likely it has been repaired in the past. I would also go the route of getting an aftermarket bumper.

Just get this dude... $700, painted to match, and OEM

    https://www.paintedoemparts.com/store/c940/Bumpers.html

I got rear ended 2 weeks ago. I'll be using this company to get a rear bumper wing and a tailgate. Hopefully these pre painted OEM parts will help me put a couple grand in my pocket and fix my poor Taco just good enough to put this annoying issue behind me and I can move on.....

At this point my ride is butt fucked anyway and it will never be the same, so I might as well try and get a few high estimates and fix it myself with the help of this company... we'll see.... still waiting on the damn police report. Got a couple estimates of 3k and 4k. So......
