I just noticed the paint is peeling on both my fenders inside the engine compartment. I'm puzzled by this because it's not like anything is rubbing or even touching these areas. Missing paint here doesn't bother me too much because it is hidden by the hood but I am worried it will peel to beyond the engine compartment. Then that is going to look horrible!!!

I want to stop the bleeding before it gets out of hand so I took it to the closest autobody shop and he said it looks like the sealant has worn off. To repair, the paint will need to be completely removed and then re-applied. He said he could do both for like $1,200. We both kind of agreed the truck doesn't look that bad and he suggested I mask up the good paint and then sand down the peeling area with 1K grit. I would have to sand it enough to stop the sticker-peel effect. Then just spray paint with some white primer.

Anyone else seen or experience this? I might expect to see something like this start on the "outside" of the truck because of sun exposure but not here where it is shaded....

This is a big problem with the 040 paint code and has a current recall. There is thread dedicated to it. I’ll find here in a second
