Took it to the dealer I bought it from and they referred me to their body shop who are doing a quote and will send it to the dealer who will then contact Toyota Canada to see if they will cover it under warranty.

Body shop said they will need to paint and then redo the clear coat on all the hood. Super annoying as got paint protection film and ceramic coating that will also need to be re-done.

This isn't super uncommon with white paint on these trucks

Unfortunately this is a common issue with white on Toyota vehicles. It is a single stage paint.

Even the pearl white paint? I thought that didn’t have the same issues as the Super white.

Not going to lie, that looks like the damage that happens when you carelessly remove the wiper arms. (not you, but someone)

I thought it was just white in general but I knew of super white for sure.

Definitely take it back in and let them take care of it. Just monitor it for the future.

To add to my post, if you look at the wiper arm you can see the mark where it contacted the hood.

Down a little bit from the black circle on the arm.

Yeah I have no idea. Truck went straight from the dealer to a trusted detail shop for 3M and ceramic coating. Then went for wax undercoating at a different shop. I’ve obviously not removed the wiper arms, not sure if the detail shop or undercoating place would have any reason to?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Wrap the hood flat black. End of problem

They had the wipers in the 'up position and opened the hood.

I suspect whoever caused the damage tried to tidy it up with some touch up paint which then failed over a few months and peeled everywhere. Pretty pissed off that I have to deal with this.

I had a similar thought but instead you pull wipers up to wash then decide to open the hood after. I have a similar scar to the edge

Yup, the damage looks like this was the probable cause of that damage. You can see the scuff evidence on the wiper arm and i know cause this has happened to me before. I bet it happened at the detail shop.

I agree it’s wiper arm scratch...seen it many times. If that were my new truck I would rather it was correctly touched up than have an entire hood painted. Sucks to have this happen to a new truck.

Can something like that be touched up to a good standard though? I’m also not too keen on having an entire hood repainted on a brand new truck.

I agree with others, this damage came from the detail shop. From the wipers or from their polisher its more likely than not the detail shop caused the damage.

Now Toyota most likely will agree to repaint the hood but keep in mind you will be using up some of their goodwill gesture with this repaint so lets hope you don't ever have a close call warranty claim in the future where Toyota will look at what they've paid out previously in "goodwill gestures" and might say nope to handling a repair that happens soon after the warranty expires.

Probably but why risk it? The body shop will know the best chance at making it match and last.

Yes....not an easy place to touch up.... but it’s in a fairly forgiving location, i.e. not in direct line-of-sight. I would try a reputable detail or body shop. And I would order the touch up paint tube from Toyota Parts. Otherwise you will be paying someone $70-$100 for a pint of pearl paint you will probably never use. Tri-coat paints are never a lot of fun to touch up because the luster is difficult to duplicate. All that said, the irritation of this incident gradually subsides and you’ll forget it’s there. And you won’t be staring across a hood that has a different paint texture or finish than the rest of your truck. Which is entirely possible if you have the hood painted.

Just an update to this post. Toyota approved the repair and I picked it up from the Toyota approved body shop earlier today. Although it’s been snowing all day everything looks good and they seem to have done the repair without needing to remove the original paint protection film at the front of the hood.

I saw the invoice and it was about $1400 CAD that Toyota covered.
