Here's a fun one for everbody. I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma TRD 2WD in Dark Blue. I recently noticed the roof was peeling. I looked into this a little bit & realized the roof was rusting. It literally looked like a cat had clawed the entire roof. I had no clear left on the roof. It was bad!! My question is, has anbody had this problem?

    First, welcome to TW.
Second, Yikes! Do you park/pass regularly under a low tree or something, or have you been swiped while passing low trees? Also, pics would help- if you can get up high enough to take a pic?

Are you specific that it was the paint peeling or could it be clear coat peeling which has not yet reached your paint?

The clear coat is completely gone. Which I think is the reson that the roof started to rust.

Ya know, my 2006 BSP had this problem. I bought it used in arizona. Little tiny scratches all over the roof. Doesn't sound as bad as yours though.

I ended up sanding my roof to smooth it out and then getting some color-matched rattle can and just spaying it. It's the roof and I don't see it much... as long as it's not rusting.

There were some little rust spots in the scratches (hence the sanding). But mine doesn't sound as bad as yours.

    Good luck!

Also, any oxidation on your hood? mine has some and I haven't found a way to deal with it yet :(

I have the exact same problem. Washed the truck, no issues on the roof. Then a couple weeks later looked like a cat fight on my roof. I thought maybe I hit a low tree but I would have realized doing that. Im going to sand and color match the roof and clear coat the shit out of it. Think its the factory paint. I know the corollas had issues as well. Im bsp by the way

my suggestion is to sand, get some color match paint, paint it, clear coat it.

shouldn't cost more than $60 for supplies and it's an easy square piece of area to paint. good luck

Over $400 of paint? What year is your truck, Murray? How has it been stored? How many miles?

Damn that sucks. Sorry man but yea definitely sand it down and use an etching primer and sure you can do a decent job yourself with color match rattle cans. I bought superwhite from amazon. Same company prob has clear coat.

Sad to see but I've had 6 Toyotas over the years and never a paint issue. Try going back to dealer and keep going up the ladder till you get the answer you deserve.

My OEM tires only lasted 21000 miles. Cost me more than $50 of materials and an afternoon to replace those, and definitely more than $400. My truck was only 13 months old, too. How old is your paint?

Paint isn't a lifetime thing, and prone to all kinds of things that are very dependent on how it's maintained, how it's stored (kept away from harsh UV, scratches, type of soap used, etc,.), and how it was originally applied. I'm sorry your paint is needing attention, but there's probably 20,000 more made in your year and color that have no issues with theirs. Toyota built them, too.

If you're paying anybody $400+ to paint a roof of all things you're choosing to be out that much money. Painting the roof yourself couldn't be simpler. You just have to pull on your man pants and get it done. Or you can pay someone to do it, and complain about the cost. Kind of like paying a woodworker to hammer your nails for you.
