Just fyi to taco brothers that don’t know yet. My 2017 Taco paint is pealing on both rear doors and getting worse by the day next to the window. Good thing is Toyota is aware of it and is a recall but a new recall that has not been sent out yet to Taco owners. If u enter ur vin# on there website it won’t show up because it’s not approved yet but will be soon according to Toyota. Check ur paint!

I thought recalls are safety only, this is likely a warranty extension.

Ya ur probably right. All I know is, they know it’s a known issue and most complaints have been white paint.

My 07' Super White is having similar issues and I would be livid if I had a new or newer vehicle have that happen

Toyota calls it a customer support program.

This has already been identified as an issue on white trucks. Search engine is your friend.

That really sucks. I’m not sure what it is with Toyota and white paint but this has been an issue for decades from what I’ve read. You’d think this would have been fixed by now.

Had inspection today at Toyota. Was approved but still has to be approved by Corporate. But what makes me mad, they only approved to paint the two rear doors. Do u guys think it will be noticeable having two doors freshly painted? I’m going to be pist if it doesn’t match Toyota is slowly losing there good name for building solid vehicle's. New Toyota’s are falling apart like a damn Ford.

Too many to list. I’m lazy
It’s not just Toyota. White paint has been an issue with a bunch of different manufactures for years. We have very strict rules in regards to white vehicles at work. GM and Hyundai and Jeep are the worst offenders. I’ve personally only seen a handful of Toyota’s with paint issues and most are just blatant idgaf about my car and I’ve been in the automotive Industry for 13 years. Toyota owned up to the “sticky dash” issue so by guess is they will find a way to make this right. I would hope so anyways.

not took 11 posts to get to the “Toyota has decreasing quality” post. This might be a record.

Im no paint expert but wouldn’t u think if it’s peeling in two areas on opposite sides of the truck, the entire truck has a shoty paint job. Wouldn’t u want ur entire truck repainted after paying $40K for a truck?

I just bought a 2014 super white Taco and have peeling on a couple of my doors. Do you know if I will be covered since I am not the original owner and no longer under warranty?

you just answered your own question.

because if you were, you would know that this is an adhesion issue that only affects the leading edges on white(040) colors which Toyota to this day shoots as a single stage application from the factory.
You get a high speed impact like a rock chip, and the surrounding area starts to lift and delaminates from the ED coat.

this is a well known and well documented issue with multiple Toyota models, across broad year ranges of white vehicles.

For a half decent painter, solid white is the easiest color to match, and can be panel painted without requiring any blending to adjacent panels, so you will get what you deserve and have only the affected panels repainted.

This will never happen on your tailgate, so re- painting the entire vehicle becauae you think they should is not a logical reason.

I bought my truck used with 17K miles on it and warranty is up. My truck was still approved by Toyota but they told me I have to wait until corporate approves. I guess it’s already approved for other Toyota’s vehicles just not for Tacoma’s “yet”. U can take it in and have them inspect it. Ur issue looks just like mine. The more Tacoma’s they get the sooner it gets approved

Ya, I just called Toyota corporate and my local dealer about the issue. They said it is a common problem, but nothing they can do about it now. Have you heard of this same issue with other color paints like the metallic grey?

How is it not a logical reason? If ur paying $40K, $50K etc for a truck, u expect perfection. I’m sure Mercedes wouldn’t just paint the affected area.

My local dealer said they are only aware of the white and that blue color forgot the name of it.
