I was detailing my 2021 TRD OR Super White yesterday and had a piece of paint flake off on the piece that goes around the grill. The truck only has 6228 miles on it at the moment. I have an appointment with the dealership Friday. I guess I will see how Toyota goes about dealing with this. I was hoping the issue was over with this color paint.

That’s a bummer. Sorry about that bro. They should take care of it though.

How long should the paint job last?

I purchased a 2016 TRD OR (Quicksand) in 2017, and I was shocked when I saw the paint peeling off the front in October 2020!! Like I thought the same thing you did!

Can't believe toyota still has problems with their super white. I wonder if a ceramic coating before the the truck is delivered would help.

I am hoping that since it is under the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty that they will cover it without much grief.

"D'oh" says me with my 7000 mile Super White DCLB! My finish is pristine and I'm keeping it dialed with the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic but I don't believe the issue is from the outside in, it seems to be an adhesion issue possibly at the primer level.

If I were you, start a highly detailed documentation with "8x10 color glossies with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one" and prepare to do battle at some point. You might be rewarded given that you're documenting something so early in the life of the truck.

    I'm sweating bullets, now.

@OnTheSquare What's the production date on the VIN tag on the door jamb?

Maybe it was Taco Tuesday in Baja and cervezas were flowin'!! :drunk:

A good paint job should last 20 years or more.

My 'YZ' white '98 Ford Ranger 4wd with 240k still has a stellar finish but I'm the original owner and meticulously maintained it. I do have some similar flaking on the body panel joints above the doors but it stops before it rounds the corner and runs into the exposed roof panel.

So....he'll yeah....it should last as long as we do our part in maintaining.

My 2002 Tundra had nearly a fleck and I washed it twice. Once for my sons prom, and the day I sold it.

Will not help. The issue is the adhesion of the paint to the primer.

Peeling paint was understandable in the 1980's when regulations forced automakers over to water based paint but here we are 30+ years later and manufacturers are still having this problem. This is no longer understandable or acceptable.
