Yes I bought a black truck and though I love it, I do need to keep up with the scratches. Does anyone have a paint pen brand that they recommend or don't recommend? Thank you.

I would suggest going to the dealer to get the best match

Go to the dealer and get it there. It will be from Toyota and will be matched precisely to the batch associated to your VIN#.

At my dealership it was a whopping $16...best 16 bucks you'll spend. Make sure it has the brush applicator as well. Mine had a brush applicator on one side of the cap and a pen applicator on the other.

I've paid $20 for touch up paint at Autozone and Pep Boys in the past and it never matches, no mater how close the color seems to match in the store. The Toyota paint is an exact match. This was the first thing I bought because I have the Inferno orange color...which is a tough color to match. When I used it, it worked like a dream.

Now it sounds like I have a paint fetish...

    Hi,
The ONLY product that you should be using to touch-up scratches or chips on your Tacoma ... or anything else that you own is Dr. Colorchip.
It is available online and ships to you quickly. You can view demonstration videos online. You literally smear the touch-up paint on the chip or scratch and then using a special cloth and liquid wipe off the excess so the paint remains in the chip/scratch. Repeat until the chip/scratch is filled and now flush with the surrounding area.
It is available in every OEM colour in a variety of kit sizes.
I have used it on many vehicles over the years including a Ferrari so i trust the product fully.

Since you have a black truck, try a Sharpie. (Don't knock it until you try it, it works great for those scratches that are low on the body.)

Do all dealerships sell these? Sounds like a great cheap backup to have

My Toyota quicksand paint pen doesn't match worth a shit. It's a match from 10' away.

Sharpie always looks purple or blue when dry. IMO I wouldn't trust anything but a toyota color match on your $30-40k truck. $20 for a touch up pen at dealer.

took wife's super white 4runner to BumperDoc in tempe/Scottsdale to fix a few nicks (car rear ended her at less than 5mph and only left a couple chips after buffing out) ... it literally looked like they used tooth paste for $75.... I expected a much more professional looking job. I literally could have done better with a touch up pen myself. Pretty lame as they had great yelp reviews so I expected better.

Get it from a Toyota service. I got one to touch up the rock chips from big rigs on the highway. It will prevent rust from forming

They should. They had to special order mine. When my phone charges up I'll post a pic with all details.

The dealership I go to had to special order mine, but they had other colors in stock.

When I got mine after a week or two, I used it on a couple of small pin head sized chips. When I dabbed it on the first chip it literally disappeared. Usually you can see where you apply paint, but it blended in so well and so quickly...i was really impressed.

paintscratch had a perfect color match for my wife's car. As for paint pens in general, I hate the dam things, never get even close to acceptable touch up with them. Old style touchup bottle with a toothpick (throw away the brush that come with it) is my preferred way. Get them from the dealer / Amazon.

The Toyota paint-matched pen does a decent job for small chips. The Dr. Colorchip kit does an even better job. If you're as OCD as I am, neither of these will work and you'll end up paying someone to come sand down and repaint as I did (totally worth it).

I used to be OCD but the older I get I just don't have the energy for it anymore. But sometimes it kicks in and it seems worse, like a meltdown.

If it had been smaller chips I'd have had an easier time letting it go, but someone scraped the hell out of my front passenger flare. Tried all I could to fix it myself then I realized I had spent as much on equipment to try and fix as I would have on the pro repaint (around $250). I'm about a year in on my 3rd gen Taco now, and I'm much more immune to chips now :)

Yeah, big scrapes are different than the chips...that would trigger my OCD as well. Door dings would do it too.

In my experience, the paint pens from dealers are not a perfect match.

Go to a local body shop and have them pull the paint code from your vehicle and have them whip you up a small batch of touch up paint. Probably cost you $20 and its the size of a pill bottle.
