i had some paint correction done on my '07 last weekend because the hood and roof were pretty hammered.

the guy told me that he was very hesitant to go very hard on the hood and then he showed me what his paint gauge was showing on my paint.

the hood after he was finished showed 1.35mil :eek: (normal factory paint, he said, is around 4mil).
i asked if it was just the hood that was thin......my whole truck is anywhere from 1.8 to 1.4 mil

wtf?! were they just trying to save money back in '07 or was mine done by lazy, weekend hungry robots?

after hearing this, i went around and looked at all the little chips i have and each one goes right to the metal and is very thin

Hard to tell what happened. Could have been the dealer over paint corrected it before selling it.

Hopefully you never need extensive paint correction so its not an issue.

my thought is Toyota put just enough paint on to cover the metal.

My paint isn’t that thin so I’m not sure the problem is systemic.

Now the paint job on my front bumper is miserable lol

Its really hard to get any auto manufacturer to warranty or fix paint defects.
