Yes there is a clear coat, but the paint quality isn't all that great. I've got several paint chips around window edges and doors where there are bends. No clue what they are from. The only one I know for sure why it happened is on my passenger door near the bottom where some a-hole opened their car door into mine. Caused small dent and took the paint with it.

yeah i'm sure there's clear coat because it's pretty damn shiny after i wax it. You can see the gloss. I think the coating of the clear coat is very thin tho. And yes i feel like the paint is very poor due to many paint chips on mine.

Yes, the paint is crap. I had the hood repainted at the dealer due to some factory blemishes. The paint shop manager told me that the factory paint system is computer calibrated to put on the minimum amount of paint necessary. I'm not sure if that's true, but the paint sure is "thin." I baby mine and it has several chips already (bought new in 9/08, currently has 14k miles). BTW, I believe all new vehicles have two stage paint (base/clear). It's been stated on here that the fender flares have single stage paint.

FWIW, my '06 Camry's paint is crap too.

I think the paint is high quality and very tuff. No problems with my 07. I always thought my wifes '99 4runner had the best paint ever and my truck seems about as good. I have heard others say it is hard to scratch the paint. I guess there are quality issues, however, depending on what shift yours is painted and what day of the week. You know how those robots love their weekends...I'm sure fridays paint jobs are not as high a quality. Ha
