PAINTED Engine Cover Awesome!

After my hatch was a 96 teg RS. I put s b20 in it and was going to vtec it too but plans changed and I got a Lexus lol
I miss those days.

I day I will have a supra.

Mine was also green. Man I miss those days. I want to build another one so bad.

 

By multiple tapping i mean...
one layer of tape applied and removed in-between your three step process (primer, base coat and clear coat). Like, tape and apply primer then remove tape in order for it to dry. Then re-mask with tape and then lay your base coat and remove tape... etc.

But I now understand that once I get the cover tapped to my likings.. i can just do the whole process and then peel off the tape.

Your's turned out way better than mine did, I really should have sanded mine first but I was worried without the texture the paint wouldn't stick too well.

 

Ya 800 grit with 8-10 coats will be really smooth still

 

Haha, thanks. I was just too lazy to try and get the curve taped up. I used a couple of coats of Rustoleum High Heat. Seems to be holding up well.

Great job Thinking of doing mine. I would think that you would wait till the paint is dry to take the tape off.

IMO It works both ways. What I was scared of which it was starting to do was attach to the paint that was getting ripped off because of how many coats were on there.

You don't take the tape off while the paint is still wet, but you want to do it before it dries. I usually pull the tape 20-30 mins after the last coat.
