Like they were bought from J C Whitney and bolted on to the fenders. That's just my opinion on textured plastic/non painted flares, especially on trucks other than black. It breaks up the side of the truck too much for my tastes. I'm even starting to dislike my <'01 SR5 chrome strips and am going to likely replace them with Bushwhacker's 1.5" flares and have them painted to match.

That's all that matters man...they don't look cheap, I shouldn't have implied that, I just always loved colormatched or no flares.

They look nice man. Black flares on a first gen is definitely the way to have 'em.

I found one place that had it here in tampa. I got the paint at napa, but my local napa didnt carry it, I had to find a main napa parts store. but im sure you can find it at other stores as well

autozone, advanced auto parts, pep boys, home depot, lowes. these places do not carry the SEM brand paint

I would love to help you do it man but im leaving in a little less then 3 weeks to the army. (Basic training) really crunched for time here. lol

however,if you decide to do it, at the top of the thread is a pic of the paint i used, along with the part number. its $16 a can, but well worth it.

and like I told a couple other guys on here, i was recommended this paint over anything else. duplicolor, rustoleum, etc... from what i hear it will last much longer than these brands

but, i do not know how long it will last. it seems like it will last a long time. but we will see. just make sure you prep well. sand, clean, etc..

all i can say is that the color is very close to the OEM black flares, and it matches my bumper valence and mirrors perfectly :D

but good luck man, any questions just ask

i was in the same boat. i looked for 1st gen OEM black flares forever!!!! i could not find them. craigslist, ebay, TW. i went the bushwacker route but they do not fit on 1st gen 01-04. only place i found the OEM flares was from toyota, but wayyyyyy to much money.

front flares were $171 a piece, and rears were over $200 a piece :eek:

ide rather paint them once a year then spend that money..

thanks bud. the SEM bumper coater is perfect for doing this. but just remember it will not be a complete black. the color is more like a very light black/dark gray. but this is the color i wanted. it looks more flat black in the shade, then when the sun hits it, it turns into a dark dark gray. but looks great to me

Anyone tried Krylon Fusion? I painted the piece that's on top of the front bumper today.. let it dry and installed it when it was almost dark, but now that and my step bars are gloss black.. the valance and fender flares are the dark gray/light black color, wondering if I should paint them as well. The valance has been scratched/hit anyway, so I plan on getting a new one eventually.. but for now, would painting it and the flares look ok? Scotch bright them/clean with alcohol/Krylon Fusion?
