Yep thats where you messed up;)
Go extra light around the bends and corners because thats where the paint will accumulate the most

Both, i guess maybe i didnt sand it good enough, i was using 05prerunners tutorial and he didnt really give specific times he did it and how long he waited inbetween. so i just kinda estimated on my own....

    Sanded the grille down
Taped the inner black(so no paint could get in)
    sprayed ashesion promoter
    sprayed primer
    then sprayed matching color paint

rattle can paint job...:( I'd not let a rattle can anywhere NEAR my truck. The finish will never hold up. Even from the pics, the paint does not match very well.

You need to use a proper, catalyzed primer, and some real automotive paint. Spray bombs just end up looking like doo-doo. You got a nice truck and you want to use rattle can? You get what you pay for. I'd get a new grill shell/surround and either leave it alone or have it redone properly. You could probably strip yours and redo it properly.

I like the color matched idea though.

I have to disagree about the paint not matching. It looks exactly like truck color

No it doens't...It's a few shades more beige or something...But I wouldn't call it "exactly like the truck color"

I would vote for painting the triangles white too cause I don't think you are going to get a fix for that. You could also get a replacement grill (like a billet kit) and install it over those spots...

looks good man, but you really need to redo the whole thing.. i mixed up some Superwhite II and Olympic white.. and got really close to the factory paint.

cut the triangles off.. thats what i did. and i sanded them down for a smooth finish...make sure you don't mess up your headlights. maybe take a second thought on doing them on your own.. ask someone who knows.. cuz by the looks of it.. the BHLM is far more difficult to do. this is based on the way you did your grill. no offense. but really just start over.. i did mine black, then white ( which was waaay off), then took off everything to redo the white (current color). i feel your pain. haha

    practice makes perfect.

The truck's going to look great with a white grill - but make sure it's a good paint that will adhere good / dry hard because the first time you go to scrub bugs off - the paint will come with it.....

Keep at it and don't give up!

Yeah, that's true! Jaye, I have this clear coat we can put on that's really stong...I washed my truck the other day with the painted grill with one of those HIGH PRESSURED car wash sprayers and it held up good, no chips or anything!

I used about 15 coats to rattle can my engine cover - that's what it took to get full coverage. Just use very light coats. If you miss a spot, don't go back over it right away, you'll get it on the next coat. That is always the mistake people make. They want it covered on the first coat but it's not possible.

Also, let the paint FULLY dry before pulling the tape off. Otherwise, as you already know, you will pull up the still-wet paint. If it starts to rip, use a razor blade along the edge to cut it cleanly.

You could paint your triangles white or pull them off and paint them black again. It won't match your grill but will look better than your current setup.

Also, I'm sorry to say but the pictures indicate that the color is not matched very well. Sometimes it's best to leave well enough alone. These forums can get you in trouble because you think it's easier than what it is. I would NOT recommend the BHLM without someone who has done it with you. Even then, many people still have problems.

You have a good looking truck...no need to tinker.

    Too few to list.
I was always worried about painting anything in front of the car because the front end goes through a lot of debris but then I finally did it on a different truck and if you take the time to do it right, it should last. The only problem is color matching unless I can get that Super White paint from Toyota in a spray can, then I would have painted my grill already. I'd rather spend the $100 for a shop to do it.
