Depends how serious your shopping for a truck.

Then some people think driving 20 miles is to far.

To me a 200 mile round trip to look at something I might buy is worth it .

It is really hard to get an Idea of the condition from pictures lighting and shadows can really distort things

    $10,000.00 is pretty cheap .

It all depends how much the dealer needs to make If the vehicle passes your inspection and road test let the horse trading begin.

My asking price for my Tacoma is $250,000.00 just because I have not sold it yet is not important.

When the dealer coated my frame they did a super sloppy job like that and painted over everything. Personally if I was in your shoes, I would check it out and bring a hammer with you and hit some sections and crap some of that shit off and see what's under it, some rust is going to be "normal" for any truck prorated outside the desert/low humidity regions of the US.

Autocheck report has this truck in Pennsylvania since it was purchased. I would imagine that is rust down there.

Looks like it was indiscriminately spray bombed with paint or undercoating spray to make it look good. You would need to carefully examine that frame to determine its health, but there are definitely spots that appear to have rust scale underneath the paint coating. Chances are high that little to no proper prep was done before spray paint, so whatever rust that is there will continue to get worse unless you are looking for a big project. Being at a dealer I would be even more wary.

I would probably pass on that truck. The price seems on the higher side, and I would prefer a vehicle that looks more "honest".

I'd be willing to bet that there's a 50/50 shot that the dealer did not do this.....but rather the previous owner did.

Judging from the rear diff and skid plates that looks pretty rust free...yes there is rust...yes its a PA truck. The bad rust is when it starts to look textured and flaky, anything under that paint is likely just surface rust, aside from a few spots I can see where it's flaky, and the owner wanted to give it a cleaner appearance before selling. The paint over that flaky rust is gonna peel or chip off pretty quickly unless it was prepped properly. For reference my rear diff is flaky like that all over and even down the axle tubes a bit. It's just what happens to a 20 year old truck in the northeast. After all, it's the rust inside the frame that kills these trucks (it's hard to judge a book by it's cover) not the surface rust on the outside of the frame of the rear diff...

It's very possible the whole underside was shot with a rust reforming paint and hopefully new paint overtop, the Rustoleum one I use dries flat black just like that.

100 miles to find out for sure is worth it. if not only to educate yourself more on what you are looking at/what to look for.

My guess from previous experience is that thats just some black rustoleum meant to hide all the rust. I'm jaded and i default to thinking used car lots are SUPER shady, mainly because they are. I went and looked at a tundra, 140k miles in PA, and they said that they didnt have a chance to put the truck on a lift and inspect it yet, but when i went poking around underneath, they had already sprayed it (he admitted this to me) all underneath with some coating. For sure they were just covering the rust spots for the internet pictures that brought me there in the first place. They wanted $8,600 and i said i would do the deal at $8k. They told me to beat it, and sure enough they sold that truck for their asking price. Moral of the story - a) the paint is surely covering a lot of rust and b) they'll probably get asking price or close to it if you walk away so dont be surprised if they dont want to negotiate

imo looks like rubberized undercoat. Pretty common for dealerships to hose down the underside of vehicles with that shit. Personally i dont like buying trucks that have been undecoated. The issue is prep and whats under there, undercoat is thick and hides rust well and holds up for a short time. Any rust or dirt trapped underneath the undercoat will hold moisture and cause more rust. I wouldnt trust a dealer to do a quality cleaning and prep job before undercoating the truck. For the high price tag dont make the trip

Thing is the lowest paid person is going to do the spraying at most dealers

Like anything else be cool to see the owner of the dealership doing the warranty work

looks like they painted over the rust... you should report them to the BBB, write a review and stay away. This seems illegal and unethical

a bit of an overreaction from a few photos that you can't even be 100% certain about.

it also blows my mind anyone cares about the BBB at this point in time.

I always get a chuckle when someone says report them to the bbb. All they do is reach out to businesses and ask them if they want to be certified with them for $50/ month and get a sticker to put on the front door looooooool
