At that point I would just bedline it for little money and effort.

Lol forgot to ask. What are you painting with? Rattle cans or a gun?

Probably cans, as someone who doesn't have any paint experience likely doesn't own a compressor and paint gun....

    Yup cans.

I bought 3 cans of what was supposed to be Lunar mist dupli-color two years ago. I painted my old camper shell and it was the wrong silver. I emailed dupli-color a couple days ago asking if they make lunar mist and the guy said yeah and he will send me 3 free cans for my troubles..

So I was just going to spray paint the top part of the bumper lunar mist if I had to buy new paint and paint the rest black like all other 01-04 but since I am getting it free... might as well try the whole bumper.

Then you probably do need to wet sand I'm not sure I haven't painted with cans before

Wet sanding doesn't have anything to do with paint source and everything to do with quality of finished product.

I'm not sure why you think rattle can doesn't need wet sanding but a paint gun does? If anything it would be the opposite, as a paint gun will lay a better coat of paint than a spray can will.

Awesome. I'll wet sand then. So like get some 2000 paper and just pour some water while I sand and I'll be good?

Was also looking at pain protector. Found stuff from 3m. Looks to be a clear plastic spray. Probably could just use clear plasti dip though

You can just keep the surface wet and dip your sand paper in a bucket to keep it wet also.

So I sanded with 80 on a sander and pressing moderately got some more off. The other paint that didn't come off seems to be on pretty well. Will it be fine to primer over it?

You don't need to take it down to bare, just want a smooth and even surface that is appropriately roughed up to help the primer adhere. Obviously, anything loosely attached needs to be sanded off and removed - after that, you're all good.

After the 80 I did one more round with 220 to get rid of the big scratches. Primer next

Well I premiered it. Where I went down to bare plastic you can tell a difference. Should I sand with a larger grit sand paper to make it smooth or what?

It didn't look like that before you primed?

You need to smooth out those spots. If they're high spots use sandpaper, if they aren't, use filler.

Here is what it looked like before. The spots showing in with the primer are the black spots below. It felt smooth but I guess the plastic got eaten by the sandpaper. So since they are lower than the accompanying paint, fill it with (what?) or sand down the roughed up bits then fill it?

Can I just spray it with bed liner and then paint the bed liner lunar mist? Does that work? I'm tired of this

Fill with fiberglass body filler or similar flexible filler.

Weren't you just taking paint off the bumper? Who the hell said to use 80 grit?
