    Hi All,

Been reading on here for a while and it seems to be a very knowledgeable group of Taco owners on here.

I just bought a cap off a guy for 10 bucks. 10 bucks! I plan to use the Rust-Oleum paint technique with an air compressor to paint it to match.

I was wondering if anyone on here had firstly, any advice for painting it, and secondly, if anyone had any advice on attaching the camper to the bed with C-clamps or...

    Thanks!

I painted my first cap with Rust Oleum and it kinda matched the truck color. I've always used clamps to hold my caps on, three per side, never had one loosen-up.

There is a company that makes clamps that go into the rails. less likely to rattle loose. I'll see if I can find a link.

The clamps will cost more that the cap did. There are a bunch of choices on Amazon and others. Let's see some pics. I'm looking to do the same thing.

    Only I don't have a $10 cap yet.

I've even seen a few two tones that looked pretty good.

10 bucks is a deal for a complete cap. Rust-oleum will sort of match but around my town the parts places sell Duplicolor that is pre-mixed with the factory colors.

Having only painted one car I'm no great expert on painting, but I do know the more time you spend on prep the better the results will be. But for a $10 cap maybe blowing the dust off and hitting it with the paint is all you need to do. :D

    Hey all.

    Thanks for the replies.

I found the cap on CL just north of Harrisburg PA.

IIt fits length wise but'll be about 1.5" short on each side. Not flush but still sits on the bed nicely.

Any innovative ideas for locking? The original handle lock on the cap is seized up.

Nice find for $10 OP. Kind of a coincidence - I got my cap in Harrisburg also from a member here. Since you got the cap so cheap, maybe try an auto body shop or macco to paint it nice? Great link for you in the above post for clamps. Measure carefully before ordering since doesn't fit like it should (narrower, right?) so you don't waste your time and money.

Great, thanks for the replies guys.

Those clamps seem to be perfect, I wonder if they'll work because the cap is a bit narrower.

I think I'm going to use the generic C-clamps for now just because I'm about to head out west and won't have time to order them.

I'll post a picture when I get it all done in a couple days.

    Thanks again.

    Hey all.

    Here's the final product.

Put about 100 bucks more into it with paint supplies and hardware to attach it and stuff to replace the window.
