Painting Grille Sourround Black

So I'm trying to find a good grille color/replacement that ties in my new black wheels better on my silver Tacoma, but I'm having a hard time. I think the smoked chrome grille goes very well with the silver color, but it seems slightly off now with black wheels.

Has anyone painted only the chrome surround of the grill black, leaving the rest smoked? I'd love to see photos.

If not, has anyone darkened or even blacked out their stock sport grill on a silver Tacoma?

 

I found this, which seems to be similar to what I am referring to, only not on a silver.

 

Not on a silver truck, but here is what I did to mine until I upgraded. Plastidipped the bezel black and the insert smoke.

I just did this last night. Took it apart and plastidipped the chrome ring and then installed a 2018 sport/off road grille that I picked up cheap from a forum member. I hate chrome and the new black grille looks much better on my white truck. It's super easy to do.

Only problem now is I can't black out the emblem, but at least it's smoked. All my other badges are blacked out already and I didn't want to dip the entire grille black so this was a good compromise. I also like to keep everything as stock looking as possible and am not a fan of the trd bro grilles.

 

What does yours look like now? I want to so all the cross bars in black, but leave the honeycomb and ring chrome to have an offset look but that looks good.

@PuyallupJon did something similar but with colormatch bars and black braces

 

You could still use color matched paint and just tape it off real good. That's what I did.

 

I don't have access to that kind of stuff at the moment for paint gun and if I don't like it, just peel it off later

 

That's a great way to approach it.

I'm a desk jockey and I was able to do it if you ever feel adventurous.

 

I’ll get a better pic from the front. Blacked out the trim, grille, and left the emblem chrome for contrast.

 

This is the grille I've decided to get. They are setting up a group buy if interested.

Now that I like. I was going to hit the dealership today for a black trim ring.
