Just pull straight out on the outer edge slowly. Pull the right side first. After that is is just a matter of removing a lot of small screws. You may need to tilt the wheel to get the left side out.

Thought about doing the trim pieces on the steering wheel but think that would be overkill on the white. Plus don't know how it would hold up against contestant contact with hands

Then theres a few lift tabs to release the trim

Sorry for bringing the thread back from the dead, but thinking of doing mine with duplicolor paint. Looks like everyone is going krylon, but duplicolor has the exact white as the truck. Looking for feedback.

Hey, I'm fine with the necro. I was going to necro this thread anyway when I finished mine. I started this project last weekend but only got 3/4 done. I ran out of paint.
    I bought a single can of https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00407RSA4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was doing the larger of the two pieces first. I found I needed several coats to get a full cover. Note, I'm a novice at spray painting stuff. My first exposure to it was doing my grill (see avatar on left). Thing is I'm not just going to clear coat it and be done with it. I wanted to sand it down and reapply paint increasing the grain on the sandpaper.
I used a scotchbright pad to scuff up the plastic initially. I applied some adhesion promoter (left over from doing the grill) and started on the paint. After getting a full cover on the paint I used a 400 grain wet sand to lightly knock the high points. It was really easy to remove all of the paint on the corners with a 400. I probably should've started with a 600 or 800 instead.
I reapplied coats as needed to get full coverage again and did a 800 wet sand. Applied some more coats and did a 1000 wet sand. That's where I ran out of paint. I'm going to put another few coats on, see how it feels, and probably clear coat it (using matte clear coat). Then I have to repeat the process on the smaller piece on the left.

I am considering also painting the two small pieces on the steering wheel and maybe even the panel behind the AC controls. But I feel like that might be too much red.
Going to wait until I have these two main pieces reinstalled and see how I like it.

I also removed the chrome bezel in the center console and painted that. It would reflect the sun up in my eyes when I was stopped at a traffic light. I'll have pics once it's all done.
Regarding the paint I have no complaints. It is $14 for half a can of spraypaint. But I had no issues. It seems like it might be slightly on the darker side than the red on my truck. But I haven't put the pieces next to each other yet.

That looks awesome! I didn't think about doing the piece around the gear shift or the door panels. I'm thinking about doing the two pieces on the steering wheel and the part behind the AC/4x4 Controls. But I don't wanna have too much red. Gonna stick with this for a while and see how I like it.

I highly recommend a clear coat too. A single stage gloss rattle can just doesn't have the same effect. I love mine, took picks and put them in an older thread about this and deleted them after so none to share right now.

I went with matte clear coat so the sun wouldn't reflect off them and blind me. The hood and that chrome piece were already doing it.

I feel you on the hood!! I haven't had much interference with my trim, or not enough to recall. If I could have gotten a good matte I probably would have gone with it.

I haven't noticed bad glare with mine, and I went with a traditional clear coat. I have however, noticed that when dust accumulates on it, it is very visable. I find myself wiping it off a couple times a day.

Did you paint the chrome trim rings? If so, were you able to get the far right passenger side ring out?

    Try an almond color.
If not color matched to the truck I was thinking of doing them in mat black ( ac control panel, center gear shift and door/ window control)
