I used masking tape, 400 grit for scuffing, rustoleum graphite wheel paint & sandable primer for center caps.
    Left wheel weights in place.

Is there anything wrong with painting the weights also?

Alright, I just got done painting my wheels. I used the Rustoleum High Performance Enamel Spray primer and paint, because I couldn't find any wheel paint anywhere in town.

It went on alright, but if I look at them cross eyed the paint chips. Any one have any idea why, or any possible solutions?

HA! Not a paint expert, but probably either the quality of paint or the surface was scoured enough for the paint to cling onto?

    X2

A self etching primer or adhesion promoter may have helped though

No, but when you get the wheels balanced they will take the weights off and you're left with ugly marks where your weights used to be. I'd have the wheels balanced before painting your rims, and have them put the weights on the inside of the rim before painting.

Thanks for your help guys. If they get any worse, then I guess I'll take em off and redo them. I thought I sanded them enough, so I guess I should've used a better primer like one that OldManTan suggested.

I think I used dupli-color adhesion promoter, and after over a yr, they have held up quite well. Even the center caps.

I want to paint my rims but in gunmetal, anyone know a "TRUE" gunmetal color? where to get it? I have seen a lot and they always vary (some are darker than others but you find out after it's painted).

when I was painting my wire wheels, I used Dupli-color Self etching primer (come in flat green, you can find it at Pep Boys) and then colored w/e color I felt but after I sprayed on some Dupli Color Clear coat. I put about 3 coats after letting the rest dry and then let ALL dry for a complete day. DO NOT put the rims on or use them or the paint will get worse. I also would do this with my brake drums/calipers/etc. ALWAYS leaving them for a day to dry completely before using/driving. BOTH can be found at Pep Boys.

So it turns out that I just didn't wait long enough to start handling them. A day after I painted them the paint was hard as hell. They're doin great now, but thanks for the advice guys!

    Wow just read this one

I painted the red centers by hand.

yes it was tedious, but worth it.
