I saw a post a couple months ago about somebody painting this bit under the cab, but for the life of me I can't find it. And now that I've seen what needs to be painted, I can't un-see it.

If somebody knows which thread I'm talking about, that'd probably wrap this up pretty quickly...

    Here's what I'm talking about...pic3.jpg

it gets dirty pretty quickly and doesn't get clean unless I get under there and wash it myself.

Any ideas on the best way to cover it up with a black / dark grey paint or coating? Is there anything special that needs to be done to paint over the original white body paint?

And does anybody know what that bit is actually called? Sorry if some of you won't be able to un-see it now too haha

    Thanks for your help

    It's called a pinch weld

Just mask off and spray paint it, nothing special

haha, i know that thread and i'm doing this w/in a couple weeks. he just masked with painters tape over a bit of paper to guard the door. use Plastidip on the paint after cleaning but don't sand it... needs to be smooth so you can peel off the Plastidip later.

I really wouldn't bother with Plasti-Dip if you're sure you want the pinch weld painted. Plasti-Dip is nowhere near durable enough for a piece under the cab that gets debris and rocks thrown at it constantly

right, i know that but i'm just reporting what the thread he was talking about suggested. but for folks who want to keep it simple to try and not wanting to commit to a permanent solution quite yet, Plastidip is a wise choice. if you like it you can do it again and do it right. if you don't, just peel it off.

You're going to like how it looks, so don't mess with the dip. Just go straight to a clean surface and bed liner.

You'll spend more time cleaning, prepping, taping/masking than you will painting.

It's a job that needs a bit of patience to be sharp. But you'll be glad you did.

Are there drain/weep holes in the pinch weld? If so be careful they don't get blocked off by bed liner

Pressure washer will make 90% of that grime disappear. Get a wash brush and scrub it from time to time. I've used plasti dip before on the front of my rear fender flare to protect against stone chips, and I put 6 heavy coats on, I work in the woods for a living and it held up fine.

Try spray on bed liner. Should hold up pretty well. Personally I use the same long handle soft brush I use on the rims. Cleans like new.
